It is cool to be nominated Ambassador of a forum. Well done.

By contrast I am not sure I understand why anyone would want to be a moderator? Unless it is a paid role?

It isn't paid but it is necessary.

As a former Moderatir on another website, I can also add that it's bloody hard work at times. We may not always agree with them, but someone has to it ... and we do very well with the ones we have ^

I also like the Ambassador concept, even if I was rejected (again). It's so nice to have someone around to welcome people, and point them in the right direction. I've been to so many other Forums where stepping through the door and saying anything is a very negative experience.

I wish you all well in your new role as chocolate distributors and General Greeters.

In all seriousness, we’re actually deeply worried about dunk. He went completely off piste a year ago while he was in the middle of judging the 2013 Trip Report Competition. This was a project he was wholeheartedly enthusiastic about. We haven’t heard from him after trying to reach him by PM, email and telephone. All we can do is pray he is well, found rekindled love or a new channel for his time and energy.
Hopefully nothing bad. We do get people here who suddenly stop posting even though there was no hint of it the previous day that they were planning to stop. I didn't realise he was an ambassador but I did enjoy his contributions.

The role was developed to welcome people unfamiliar to the store (forum) and give them directions to where they can find the Harpic (answers to their questions).

They also do some behind the scenes work.
Wandering OT here but did Asda have greeters before being taken over by Walmart? I seem to recall the idea originated from Walmart but Asda liked it and adopted it before they were taken over.

Do you have to apply or are you invited? I've never seen any requests to apply.

In my eyes anyone can be an ambassador, you just have to be helpful and welcoming. The named ambassadors take it a little further by being someone the newcomer knows they can message with any queries and get a kind response.

I'm sure even if CWS stood down he'd still be himself and be as helpful as ever. Just the same as the new ambassadors.

I do think those selected were good choices. ^

layz ... I applied once. I was overlooked this time, presumably as I had gone quiet

Also the occasional "Vino Furioso" post doesn't help my case

Actually the recruitment process is pretty straightforward. The BA Mods and I all get together once a year in a wee Irish Pub where we proceed to sit around in our underwear, holding hands and singing kumbaya. More of a chant really.

Eventually the Ambassador names pop inside our head...just like magic

You say we should be grateful to magic, sounds more to me like we should be grateful to Guinness!

Further to eightblack's comment;
posting frequently without being annoying is a useful method of getting mentioned during our annual imbibing conventions.

This doesn't explain how I made it.

Since this explanation does not mention champagne it cannot be the truth

I'm entirely prepared to believe the sitting around in your underwear bit though
