Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

I have priced up Casablanca - JFK with QR in Business for £1165 and flights with IB to CMN from LHR are £150ish

Would I be correct in thinking this would be 10+10+140+160+160+140+10+10 = 640 Tier Points for £1315?
How about CX ARN - BKK for £1380? Of course not as great as the <£900 fares but would get you exactly 640TP for the same cost as the CMN trip and allowing you to RFS the positioning flights.

Also possible to add in a SIN stop on the return, making 680tp for £1396 or allowing you to route through LHR and drop the last leg to ARN and still bank 640.

Sorry - yes, that would have been useful wouldn't it.

Budget is flexible - more flexible I guess if it's somewhere a little more glamorous - but not overly bothered, timings, year end is start of november, and a run that could be done over a long weekend would be good (Appreciate that it's likely to be a very busy long weekend).

Thanks Calchas.

A few questions for the collective wisdom on here:

1. How do pre departure date changes work with respect of Advance Purchase requirements for fares listed today? The situation is that I've damaged my passport and I'm due to start my trip on Friday evening (LHR-DUB). I have an appointment at the passport office tomorrow morning but I don't have high hopes of getting a replacement in time.

As far as I can tell there is I/A class availability from flights leaving Dublin on Thursday:

AA291 I4 | AA3 I2 | AA31 A6

There is a more expensive ILR28AP fare available that covers my travel dates but I obviously won't meet the advance purchase requirements. Worryingly it does look cheaper than the cheapest Y alternative covering July!

2. If I reschedule the outbound does there need to be availability in the relevant fare classes for my originally booked inbound flight?

3. Does the full fare reprice or just the outbound half upon making the change?

4. Any other suggestions?

Talk to AA about it maybe they can help you under their "flat tyre" rule.

It's a good question, I suspect just the outbound half; provided the outbound half allows combinations with the inbound half (which it should do on the TATL fares).

Phone AA to discuss after your appointment.

Thanks for the quick response - looks like I'll realistically have to push the whole trip back to August or November and be £1k out of pocket for two tickets if the passport office is unaccommodating and AA don't play ball.

Unfortunately the passport took a trip through the washing machine so theoretically I'm only entitled to the 1 week service. I booked a renewal 1 day appointment based on advice from an earlier thread on here. It's in one piece, the second photo that faces the detail page is still recognisable and it's relatively recent (less than 3 years old) so I'm hoping that they still have the details on file and accept it!

Alternative is an emergency travel document, but you'll also need a US visa

That is very vague!

So, had a quick look on ITA Matrix and these were the first 2 results:

£1100 will get you 360TP (40/140 x2)as DUB-LHR-JFK (J/I) dep Sat 08-Aug rtn Sun 09-Aug+1

£1256 will get you 900TP (40/140/210/60 x2) DUB-LHR-JFK-PHX-LAS (J/I/A/A) dep Sat 08 Aug+1 rtn Sun 09-Aug+1

Have a look at the top of the thread for other ideas too!

I am based near LON and in April 2015 my BAEC status dropped to Blue. I have since earned 200 TPs.

I need to arrive in CLT by 22 Sep 15 and depart CLT on or after 13 Oct 15 back to LON.

Any suggestions for maximising the trip to get ideally to Silver status?

On the BA site I have selected the following:

Lowest price (earning full Tier Points) (economy) and the flights have come up with Business flights

Flight 1: = £211
ZUR - LHR - 40 TP (assuming Lowest price (earning full Tier Points) (economy) and the flights have come up with Business flights = 40 Tier points??)
LGW - JER - 40 TP

Flight 2: = £162
JER - LGW - 40 TP
LGW - AMS - 40 TP

Flight 3: = £162
AMS - LGW - 40 TP
LGW - JER - 40 TP

Flight 4: = £211
JER - LGW - 40 TP
LHR - JER - 40 TP

I would get a total TP of 320, my company will pay £422, so it would be only costing me £324 and therefore about £1 per TP and would get me to Gold.

Does anyone know if the question above surrounding the Business flights which come under Lowest price (earning full Tier Points) will be 40 TP?

Flight 4: = £211
JER - LGW - 40 TP
LHR - JER - 40 TP

I would get a total TP of 320, my company will pay £422, so it would be only costing me £324 and therefore about £1 per TP and would get me to Gold.

Does anyone know if the question above surrounding the Business flights which come under Lowest price (earning full Tier Points) will be 40 TP?
If the ticket is a business class (Club Europe on BA) ticket it will be 40 TPs per sector. If the ticket is economy (earning full TPs) then it will be 20 TPs per sector. Check the booking class, if it is I R D C or J you will get 40 TP per sector.

For anyone finding themself in the LAX/LAS area this summer/autumn, £0.75 per TP roughly.

This is probably better for AA EQP, but Germany to CGK can be creatively routed to get 760TP at ~£1.45

I was going to post this yesterday, but saw it was already in the Wiki.

Is it always available, or just comes a couple times a year?

Virgin Tier Point Runner

Hi folks,

Hope everyone is well. Greetings from sunny Landan town.

I think this is probably my fifth post ever. I'm a newcomer but have been following for a while.

So I'm planning to be in the US in October. At the moment, my best options are DUB-DTW LAX-LHR in Y - £500ish. I have to be in LAS in between that so I was looking at the options and I can do a pretty nice run from DTW to LAS (DTW-DFW-MCO-MIA-LAX-LAS stop LAS-LAX) - £667 (450 TPs). I've been looking at ways to combine this with my flights from the UK as one big set but I'm struggling. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Dates are 17th October to DTW, out to LAS on 20th and return from LAX on either 27th/28th.

Thanks,

Gaz
