Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Hi all,

Not strictly a TP run, but I'm heading to Denver in November and am looking for ways of maximising my return whilst also minimising my costs (being the cheapskate I am). My only requirements are that I have to be in Denver from the 21-24th November, and have enough Avios to cover positioning flights. Could have extra days before/after those dates, so am flexible as to when I could travel.

So far, on my limited ITA knowledge, I'm not really finding anything for much less than about £1.8-2k - I can go WT+ for ~£750 (DUB-LHR-DEN), but that won't maximise TPs as the better route would probably be DUB-PHL-DEN I'm guessing?

If I couldn't get CW both ways then ideally I'd like it for the flight back to have a lie-flat bed, but the outbound will be a day flight so WT+ is fine really. If any wizards out there are able to find anything then I would be most appreciative!

Unfortunately your dates fall just outside the exDUB ILR28AP promotional fares, which is why you are seeing the prices you are. These dates are for outbound travel between 23rd-30th November, and have fares for circa £1250 rtn CW via PHL.

I think in this instance, as you require to be there between fixed dates, I would book the WTP rtn for £750 exLHR, and hope for a POUG or AUP on the return leg. If you require more TP's, could you look into incorporating a run while stateside. For instance, open jaw WTP ticket LHR-DEN/MIA-LHR, and then book DEN-LAX-MIA (25th Nov for £325 @ £1.20 per TP). This would give you a minimum of 450TP's for £1075. Not a fantastic return, but worth perhaps considering as you will be date restricted as far as sales go on the outbound. Good luck

Thought I might have just been outside the sale time, ah well. Have taken the first suggestion of getting the WT+ fare from DUB (@~£750), just needs a night in DUB before which is fine, and will hope for a POUG for the return leg. My TP year has only just reset, so I have a fair amount of time before I need to be hitting Silver/Gold again, so think it's probably better off just taking the cheaper option this time and then using the future flights to get the better TP yield. I'm going to need about 600 tier points to reach CCR card + GGL. My year expires on 8 September, but due to other travel I can only do this from about 1 September. Any suggestions? I want to keep the time away from home as short as possible, and keep it cheap if possible. I'm thinking maybe an ex EU QR flight to Asia in business (netting 560 points), with a BA positioning flight for the rest of the points.

I need 630 tier points.

I have done a dublin tier point run to the US before so would like to try something different.

I have priced up Casablanca - JFK with QR in Business for £1165 and flights with IB to CMN from LHR are £150ish

Would I be correct in thinking this would be 10+10+140+160+160+140+10+10 = 640 Tier Points for £1315?

I think it would depend on the IB flights - you might easily only get 5 per leg depending on the fare bucket and, at that price to CMN that's all I'd expect. Still that would leave you at silver even if you only flew redemptions for the rest of your TP year - and you'd get the four qualifying filghts in as well.

Probably a better deal for travellers but for TP runners that's 'only' 360 TP round trip + positioning flights. Unless you could do something like MAN - HEL - TXL in J as a positioning flight you'd be short, and given that £1060 isn't far off a QR return price ex-Scandinavia then I'd struggle to see it being cost effective.

Not sure this is the right place but I see a lot of BA flights ex Germany at €1400 to HKG. works out around £2.77 per point. I am sure someone else has pointed that out though.

I already have 870 tier points and have 4 sectors on BA.

Just want to come up with something a bit different to get the 630 tier points.

I need to get from LAS to TPA at the end of March next year and then from TPA to SEA mid May. As such this isn't a TP run but I'm looking to maximise TPs.

I've come up with LAS-LAX-MIA-TPA (A/A/P) and then TPA-MIA-LAX-PHX-SEA (P/P/P/P) all on US flight numbers but all bar one segment operated by AA.

The cost is $1,602 or $1,642 depending on whether I take the 737 over night to MIA.

I calculate this to be 720 TPs (60+210+60+60+210+60+60) unless there is a devaluation before then!

As I'm still very far from proficient on Matrix ITA I'd like to pick the brains of the experts on here to ask if there are any alternative routings which provide a similar number of TPs/$ ratio.
