Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Dear All,
This is probably not the right thread to ask this BUT I don't know where else to ask for advice.
My friend and I will go on our first TP-run this August. We will arrive in HNL on the 19th and have 4 full days. We wanted to go to Kauai Island for 3 days and then 1 night to Hawaii. But it seems like it is difficult to travel the Islands/book a multi city for the Islands. Any advice/experience in which order to travel from HNL, to LIH and KOA, or HNL - KOA - LIH, or different airports?

And as you may be an experienced TP-runner, any advice on resorts/hotels on Kauai or Hawaii Island?

Thank you very much!

agreed. they know pretty well that your "average" F on a 2 class plane isn't going to equate / end up in F on a 3 class.

In my opinion you only really have time for one island. It's easy booking flights between the islands but they do eat up quite a lot of time on the days you travel. Do you want to spend even more time in airports/planes than you have already just to get there?

You can't see Hawaii (the Big Island) in one night, it's bigger than all the other islands put together (I spent 9 nights on the Big Island last year and didn't see everything we had intended to). You won't have time to see anything that much different than you would on Oahu in that short time. Personally, I'd spend all your time on Oahu - see Pearl Harbour, rent a car and take in the North Shore etc for a different vibe. By all means spend a night or two in Honolulu/Waikiki as well if you want to but remember there is so much more to Oahu than just what you see of Waikiki and its beaches.

Having said that, Kauai is my favourite island of those I've visited but I would honestly save it for another trip when you can do it justice.

Hi Pipo1. I can't recommend resorts other than to say I've always found them expensive compared to mainland USA.
Regarding your travel plan, I would book my flight from Europe into HNL and then the return to Europe out of KOA or LIH. Hawaiian Airlines have some pretty good fares between islands and I would book these as separate tickets to your main flights. As you are staying on the different islands for at least a night, your chance of a misconnect to your return flight should be zero.

You will not be able to tag local flights onto your dirt cheap BA tier point run ticket. But you can buy separate flights of course on the local Hawaiian carrier.

I think you have time for two islands. But equally I would say, there is a lot of flying already, maybe it is easier to stay in one place and relax. Three islands is going to be busy.

Hi guys!

Some help needed here! I'm looking for a TP run internally in the US that will get me 600 TPs for SILV card at cheapest price? Either from LAS, LAX, SAN as I will be on the west coast towards the end of August!

Any suggestions?

Cheers

you are in the ideal starting place. ex Westcoast is usually very good.

you should look at a "hop" (e.g. LAX - LAS, MCO - MIA) and a "2,000+ transcon (e.g. LAX - MCO, LAS - MIA, LAX - MIA) and then try a few carribbean, Latin / South American destinations.

PTY was the cheapest for quite some time (and I have a very good LAX MCO MIA PTY / PTY MIA LAS LAX coming up (£470 for 620 TPs) in late July).

others you should try via matrix (and go for the "plus 1,000 miles") are: CUN, STT, SAL, SAP, GCM, SJU, NAS, etc.

Just to carry out helpful due diligence, have you already got 4 flights on BA metal? Because if not and you take this TP run in the US then you still won't achieve Silver.
Alternatively, if you have already got the 4 sectors then you should at least have a small handful of TPs and thus won't quite need 600TPs on this run - you may well have rounded up from 580 or something but it's worth letting us know so that you get all available options ^

There's always the fifth freedom flights in the Caribbean to help with the 4 BA flights too

I have a few weeks to get 70TPs to make gold for the first time and based in YYZ

Other than a day return in business to any of the NYC or ORD (CAD$600) are there any cheaper options available to me ?

I'm seeing a TAM flight YYZ-JFK on Friday or Saturday 24th/25th July, coming back on 25th/26th, giving you a night or two in NYC.

Approx 330CAD I think, 80 TPs.

Hope that helps

Hadn't thought of that, thanks.

Does it have to be booked into Business to get 80TPs or will economy do?

Hi,

When trying to get ITA to price up a 2000+ mile sector in F on an AA 2 class config do you usually need to enter any advanced routing code? Or does it normally do it automatically?

I am looking at DFW-BOG on an A319 which only has 2 classes according to seatguru but matrix ITA is showing I class. I tried forcing that sector into F using /f bc=F but it seemed to change the previous flight to DFW to F class?

Thanks,
Andy
