Question, currently have a BAPP which, due to refunds has a negative avios balance of -6,711.
I've already earned my companion voucher and have switched my spending to my Amex Gold Rewards instead (mainly due to this negative balance, and also to hit to 10k point renewal bonus), so not really using it anymore.
I know that the negative balance will sit there and get eroded by spending but wont come off my BAEC balance. But what happens If i cancel the card, is the negative balance written off or will it then come off my BAEC account?

If by "renewal" you mean simply going into the next membership year, that's never yet happened to me. I've had negative balances sitting firmly in my account from one membership year into the next.

Hi,
Last May I signed up for the BA Premium AMEX credit card. I reached the £3k spend score and didn't think I would reach the £10k spend for the companion voucher, and so swapped onto the regular (free) BA AMEX. Now it seems that I've already spent £10k on it this year, but I won't make it to the £20k by May, to reach the threshold for the companion voucher.
Would I be able to request a BA Premium AMEX again, and would I automatically get the companion voucher? Is it worth the £195? I have about 110k Avios at present but can always go on a mission to collect more.

Sorry Globaliser - you are correct. I confused this with the earning threshold being reset. The negative Avios balance does remain as you say.

No credit search either 'soft' or 'hard' was carried out when I upgraded my BA Blue Amex to the BA Black Amex card last year.(according to the three credit reference agency files). I had held the Blue card for quite a number of years though if that makes any difference.

What are the rules for using the companion after you have cancelled your card? Can I still use the companion or does that get removed too?
Previously I seem to remember someone at BA saying that you can still use the voucher but you must use another Amex card to pay for the fees on the redemption. Is that right? And if so does it need to be a card in your own name or can it be a partner?

Have to use an AMEX to pay for the taxes on a redemption, but can be any Amex, no necessarily a BA one or the one you used to earn the voucher.
