Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers

  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.

Historically it's been the Seychelles (although that option became impossible when there were no flights there), South Korea (ICN), And a few others. There was a Sudan (KTM) run that was a RTW AONE4 for something like US$5500 or something like that. As always, the relative prices get rerated and it is not as cheap. South Africa and Jordan are pretty good right now.

is there a better tool / site / way of pricing on of these? and/or how much is a RWT in J with OW along 'standard routes' (i.e. nothing too fancy complicated)?
The best quotes do come from the OW Booking Tool, as it will give you an all inclusive price based on your routing. You can book and pay for it there, too.

I have also done a JER-LGW/LHR-HEL-LHR/LGW-JER run which comes in at just under £400 for 240 TPs, plus another 80TPs if you manage to get a decent price/POUG for your positioning flight to JER.

In fact if you get your timings right you can do your LGW to LHR connection by nesting in LGW-AMS and AMS-LHR tickets rather than getting the coach for a possible 400 TPs in one weekend. I did this back in June although wasn't able to POUG AMS-LHR so only got 370 TPs as discussed here.
Thanks, if BA had been offering ET fares at AY levels (£135 r/t for some flights) I would have aimed for that in a heartbeat and risked the POUGs. Didn't seem to be any good domestic connections in Finland that gave value unfortunately. have added to wiki anyway

And open question to people, any demand for a 'vanilla' section of the wiki with the relatively simple Ex-LON runs? I love the funkier runs but at times they drown out the basics (which newbies may be more interested in judging by the volume of 'I need X TPs' queries)

If I have to fly to Australia and stop en route, I almost always use these fares. I can generally stop in the GCC, then Asia, then Oz, and then the US (making sure I make full use of the trans-continental flights as one of my flights).

You can use the online tool. Or you can use expert flyer to find the base fares quickly (set the origin and destination to the same city).

The cheapest DONE3 I can see is ex-JNB, for about £3k. On top of that you will need to add taxes and fees for each carrier and each airport you stop at.

It might be worth breaking this out into a separate thread because there is not a huge amount of detail on these xONEx published on the forum—at least not recently—but quite a few folks seem to know about them. Reading the fare rules (mostly not validated for autopricing) gives me a bit of a headache.

I think it would be of interest to TP runners and normal (travel enthusiasts) people as well.

Hello all,

I'm very new to this, but very keen to get clued up.

I'm currently at bronze, 310 tier points with BA. I'm desperate to get to silver, though my year resets on the 8th September.

I currently have 8 european flights booked this month with BA, I looked into upgrading these to business which would mean I would go over 600 points, though that would cost close to £2k.

If anyone has any tips or advice I would appreciate it!

thanks

Forgot to mention, i'm based in London.

There is already a forum for this sort of fetish!

BA Holiday to OTP (Flight AND Hotel) which cost around £200 all together. Upgrade from ET to CE for £65 on each flight. 160 TPs, a nice hotel and a weekend in beautiful Bucharest for just under £350, and giving you more than half of what you need.

Found this over on the Mileage Run Forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...hs-60-o-w.html

This would be 60 TPs one way for $60, so $1/TP or £0.59/TP (the new lowest yet??). Alas it's in Y, but if you're in the USA and want super cheap TPs...

Why would these sectors attract 20 TPs each in economy? Are they not deeply discounted? Or is the minimum that can be earned on US Air 20 at the moment? The ba.com tier point calculator seems to suggest that's the case.

Yes, all US Airways flights in economy (under 2000 miles), whether deeply discounted or full-fare, have been earning 20 TPs since US Airways joined oneworld.

interesting comments re RTW.

FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) in me says I am missing a trick given I haven't done that. So will try to have a good read on this in the various forums. Is finding the best starting point a case of "try and see" via matrix or something?

------------

separately, not sure if it's been posted on here but some good QR fares from Cairo to e.g. LAX for £2,309. Routing via DOH and (amongst others) JFK and if JFK - LAX booked on QR flight number, it books into First (A class) rather than AA flight number (which books into business (D)).

Think TPs would be:
CAI - DOH: 60 (777 out, 320 back from the flights I've looked at but class called First)
DOH - JFK: 140
JFK - LAX: 210

So return flight nets 820 for $2,309.

No guarantee you'll be able to upgrade at the airport, and since its a package booking you won't be offered a POUG prior, so may only earn 20+20 TP's in economy.

Is the £200 flight+hotel deal for one person or for two?

I don't think RTW fares can be priced through ITA Matrix. ExpertFlyer or KVS is probably best to find the base fare, but there are also a number of threads in the oneworld forum with cheap starting locations.

Although not that specific route/fare, I did see some good ex CAI US itineraries. It was even possible to route through LHR on the new A380 in some cases. The example you quote actually gets more TP's than that because DOH-JFK is over 6k miles so it's 160 I think.

I do find Cairo to be a bit of a pain as a start point though.
