I'm not looking for a TP run but they would make a refreshing change from the ever popular westbound AA itineraries.

Hi folks, as previously mentioned im getting to Gold next month but a friend is only 240 short. I have had a look at Wiki above and cant really see anything suitable so was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.
Could be something leaving LAS between 24th Aug and 3rd Sep or something starting in GLA or EDI between now and 8th November when this year runs out.

Just one other quick question as well though i may have asked this before, but what value is placed on gold ? By that what i mean is, if it was going to cost an additional £300 to get from silver to gold, what are the real additional benefits other than the additional year at "silver" fall back position when you fail to reach again.
Thanks in advance.

Have to agree but for me the primary benefit now that free cancellations have gone is the soft landing to Silver when it expires. If I was within striking distance of Gold I'd probably go for it to take away the problem of qualifying for Silver the year after.

You're treated much better on AA with OWE than OWS. You also only get prioirty boarding on QF domestic flights if you're OWE. Plus the QF Club lounges (for OWS) aren't great, but the QF Business lounges are much better; but only accessible to OWE.

Thanks for the replies so assuming 1 of us Gold and the other silver and the one on silver very rarely, if it all, travels on own, is the additional £300 worth paying to get them to Gold.
I have been reading a lot lately that being Gold doesnt even help in situations where you are maybe flying PEC and no Avios upgrades available then when the flight is overbooked, the system doesnt even recognise you are gold and upgrades randomly.
Just dont want to fork out £300 for it if my gold status is going to stand us in the same stead. Getting to silver each year is not a problem incidentally so the soft landing isnt too great a benefit in this case.

You are unlikely to be upgraded because you're travelling together. Not impossible but usually avoided because of the difficulty of finding two open seats together.
The upgrade tool isn't "random" (we think) but it relies on a more complex algorithm than just status.

Not worth it, I think.
You are unlikely to be upgraded because you're travelling together. Not impossible but usually avoided because of the difficulty of finding two open seats together.
The upgrade tool isn't "random" (we think) but it relies on a more complex algorithm than just status.

I suppose what im really asking....is there any benefit to making the one booking instead of 2 bookings if both of you are gold ?

On that basis then and for many other reasons would it be worth getting to Gold and to then always book trips separately. I have also had an issue in the past using Avios to upgrade to Business when booked together as everyone on same booking needs to be done whereas i was looking to grab an upgrade as it became available then look out for a further one down the line.
