I've used it for one-way.

Hi gang-

I wanted to see if anyone had an update on the amount of time it takes to get the 241 voucher. My wife and I want to use it for Christmas 2014 and want to hold off making the $30k spend until the last minute possible. I'd hate to qualify now and get the award a couple of weeks later only to learn it'll expire before the 2014 holidays. On the other hand, I'd hate to wait till 12/26 to complete the spend and then have Chase say the charges posted on the statement ending in January, so I didn't hit the $30k in 2012.

Any thoughts on whether to complete my spend now, with 3 weeks to go in 2012, or wait till the last week of the year?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

-Scott

Hello,
Correct me if I'm wrong but 241 is good for 2 years but it will take 2-3 weeks to show up in your account once you hi the 30k spend, and, you only have to start your travel on the 241 within 2 years,.I think the return can be after the 2 years mark so I think you'll be fine.

So it's now 2-3 weeks for the travel together voucher to arrive, not 4-6 weeks?

The Terms and Conditions state: Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

But the reality is that the vouchers apear in your account much more quickly than that. I have earned eight vouchers, and the window within which they appear begins a few days after the posting of you spending $30,000 and ends a few days after your statement closes for that month. So, 2-3 weeks is a good estimate.

So, spending up to Dec. 28 or so is a good strategy.

Great. Thanks everyone. I'll hold off for a couple more weeks. Now on to figuring out if I need to keep my BA card open for another year...

If you are wondering if you need to keep the card open in order to use the 2-4-1 certificate, the answer is "no". This was answered somewhere in all the previous messages as I wondered about this also.

Considering how far in advance you need to book awards, the 2-year limit is not as generous as I first thought.

Considering you can only book 330-ish days in advance I think 2 years is more than adequate!

I didn't really elaborate but because you have to earn in a calendar year (not 12 months) the timing of the companion ticket can be annoying. I want to travel in June but earned in Dec. So I do not have 330 days to plan for that summer. Instead I have to plan to use it the following year. Guess what? By that time I had to cancel all summer travel due to family issues. Now the ticket is wasted.

Sure, this isn't BA's fault, but it would be more useful if my 30k could be spent in any 12 months so I can time it properly. (note I'm not even complaining about yq. I'm willing to deal with that.)

In past years the vouchers have posted a week or two after passing the $30,000 spend. However this year I hit $30,000 six weeks ago and haven't seen the voucher yet

How can you earn 8 vouchers? The BA terms and conditions say you only get 1 a year and the program is only 2 years old. I spend easily 500k a year and would spend more on BA Chase if I could get more vouchers.

The 2-4-1 was introduced late in 2009. Chase awarded the vouchers for 2009 to those of us who already had BA Visa cards and had spent more than $30,000, not knowing that this deal was going to happen.

So 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. x2 if the spouse has a Chase Visa, too. That gives you eight 2-4-1 vouchers.

Thank you, Hilfly. You are completely correct. That's how I got 8 vouchers.
