Not sure if this is the same project, but due to a very tight connection yesterday I ended up using the Flight Connections route (one that comes out towards the North of the terminal) and that section had a new scanner. It was 3 lanes per machine (instead of the usual 4), nothing came out of any bags and the human scanner portion were just open 2 walls and you placed your arms down away from the body (instead of over your head in previous scanners). All was pretty efficient and painless.

Are these the same as the new scanners being rolled out?

2) I understand that laptops, Ipads and Kindles will not need to come out?
3) Will there be secondary screenings for those who have prosthetics such as hip replacement?. Him Indoors is always stopped.
4) This is happening in T5 - do we have any information concerning T3?
These are probably very basic and have been answered elsewhere so forgive me. Will this - at least in theory - make Security go quicker?

Sadly my experience at JER is not great to date. I hadn't had a secondary there in three years of going through about 2-3 times a month. I am on 100% secondaries under the new machines. They are advising passengers that if you have more than one laptop/tablet/kindle, you should remove the second etc. from your bag. I am hoping it will improve in time but they've been there a good few months now and I'm not seeing an improvement.

They stay in. From July the UK rules change and there isn't a realistic liquids ban any more (it's at 2 litres per item but in reality that's probably not going to be enforced). No need for clear bags either. Obviously one has to be mindful of the return direction. My understanding is that LHR will remove the restrictions before July, and anyone going through the new CT scanners will be on the new protocols anyway (i.e. liquids allowed). More information in the UK and Ireland Forum.<snip>

I assume many are excited about the idea of being able to have larger containers of liquid in carry-on, but barring broader international cooperation I just don't see how this offers much practical value. Assuming one is flying round trip and assuming you intend to bring the larger container back with you (i.e. you didn't fully use it up) one is still constrained by the liquids protocol on the other end of your travels...

The tamper evident bag route is a bit hit and miss .

As someone that flies a lot of domestic EDI- London / JER this is good news. Hopefully the teething problems are short lived. Never had an issue flying back from LCY with the new scanners.
I wonder if they will prioritise FW at LHR?
