Being able to keep things in a bag and bring >100ml is a total win but I expect it will be a 1yr training and learning process before it all settles down. Would be great if could keep jumpers belts and shoes on too…. or have a TSA Pre type program!
Have they changed the 100ml rule yet if you go through a new machine? Or do we have to wait for LHR to change its policy across the board?

There is a funny glitch with this. If you have 'non standard sized' drinks bottles - such as an Australia 375ml water bottle - then you will get pulled aside and subject to a full body massage. That was in T3 at least.

Going through T5 this afternoon and will use the adapted F line near the First Wing. Any enhancements to be aware of here? I've got liquids in the silly plastic bag incase.

The T5 fast track line, that has the new scanners, is down to 1 machine only at this moment. Big queue there...

Back to 2 machines now but busier than usual as they're directing Fast Track passengers to it as well

As with all CT scanners, all items are left in the bags, see the posts upthread, and that includes cellular telephones. The post above is about preparation given that most passengers will be in the legacy scanner channels.

For the new wall scan, it depends on exactly what sort of hip your partner has. But mostly they are cleared automatically. He may get a manual check in the early days since some settings are set to a more conservative level whilst training and testing is ongoing.
I'll be interested to see what they make of me; in my back I've got two rods, one plate, eleven screws, a pulse generator with rechargable battery and two long thin wires with electrodes. The metal detectors have never reacted to any of it.

Is that the Gold Fast Track or the rest of us Fast Track? I dropped to a lowly Silver so have to slum it for the next few months!

I would be thinking of a doctor's note. I was in the USA when I could tell someone was in this scenario (OK I didn't count all the screws) but I could see on the monitor the MSK surgery that had happen and why it was done. However the USA agent seemed totally perplexed as to what to do since the passenger wasn't able to speak much English and it was therefore very hard for the agent to resolve the problem.

Probably a good idea, although I've been through the USA with the rods, plate and screws without issue. I do carry a card for the electrical implant with all relevant information, including serial numbers of the kit (funnily enough it was made in the USA). I also doubt that I'll ever be going to the USA (or anywhere in North America) again anyway due to medical insurance costs; hopefully the countries to the east won't be so paranoid - they haven't been so far anyway.

I'm very sorry to read that, it's a pity that something like the set-up of medical insurance is preventing you from travelling to the USA.

Thanks. My current policy excludes certain countries, including the whole of North America. It's not really a concern for me anymore, but if I really want to go to the USA, Mexico or the Carribbean again I'll get a quote for a one-off trip; I guess it would probably be a few hundred pounds, which wouldn't really put me off. For now at least I've seen enough of all of those locations so it's not worth paying the extra on my annual policy. Never say never though...

The government has announced that the CT deadline is to be extended to June 2025 for UK airports.
