They stay in. From July the UK rules change and there isn't a realistic liquids ban any more (it's at 2 litres per item but in reality that's probably not going to be enforced). No need for clear bags either. Obviously one has to be mindful of the return direction. My understanding is that LHR will remove the restrictions before July, and anyone going through the new CT scanners will be on the new protocols anyway (i.e. liquids allowed). I assume many are excited about the idea of being able to have larger containers of liquid in carry-on, but barring broader international cooperation I just don't see how this offers much practical value. Assuming one is flying round trip and assuming you intend to bring the larger container back with you (i.e. you didn't fully use it up) one is still constrained by the liquids protocol on the other end of your travels...
