I assume many are excited about the idea of being able to have larger containers of liquid in carry-on, but barring broader international cooperation I just don't see how this offers much practical value. Assuming one is flying round trip and assuming you intend to bring the larger container back with you (i.e. you didn't fully use it up) one is still constrained by the liquids protocol on the other end of your travels...
