I had a heck of a time locating info about this place
The Bedroom
zone: S. Conrado
address: Estrada do Joá, 150
phone: 9998-3970
http://www.bbc.co.uk/holiday/you_cal...bs_music.shtml
I went to Brasil on a business trip a few years ago, and left Sao Paulo for the weekend to visit Rio. While there, with my associate and some other gringos, including a newlywedded couple, we went out on the town and included a stop at this place.
Later, I saw it on the TV show "Wild On Rio: Beautiful Beaches, Barely There Bikinis and That Bossa Nova Beat"
http://www.eonline.com/On/Wild/Travel/rio.html
Rio is a beautiful place to visit. It does have a lot of poverty and crime so be careful and perhaps it is a good idea to travel in a small group - try to meet up with some folks at your hotel if you're not already with a group.
virtual tourist seems to have some decent Rio info
http://tinyurl.com/f57y4
enjoy!
PS bring back as much of the liquor Cachaça as your country will allow, and perhaps a bit more if possible!
...cachaça is distilled from sugar cane which is milled to extract the juice. Rum makers first turn sugar cane into molasses, and then distill the beverage. Cachaça is a high-alcohol liquor – 40 proof, with a slightly musty flavor. When mixed with lime or other fruits, however, cachaça transforms itself into liquid fun. Cachaça is becoming widely available outside Brazil, in both stores and restaurants. Indeed, the Brazilian government has actually undertaken an effort to reserve the name cachaça only for Brazilian-made products and is promoting cachaça and caipirinhas as an expression of its culture...

Salvador carnival
I am burning my old CO miles . I arrived in Salvador (SSA) sunday afternoon , with a cold from NY . Unfortunately did little Sunday except sleep and rest . Today I am a bit more ambitious , definately a party going on . Tuesday will be my day .
I was in Rio for 98 carnival , I do see a difference in Salvador , more intense !
CO Business First on EWR- GRU not even half full , I found a flight in front leaving 2/21 , this past December and held it , but called 2 hrs late to book and lost it , and was stuck with 2/25 , of course 2/22-24 majically opened up week of , but my plans were made already .
by the way , i was looking for flights GRU-SSA / SSA-GIG ,I was looking @ paying 700 us$ , I then remembered TAM was AA partner and got open jaw reward for 20K miles(great value for miles) . brand new TAM A320 all coach .

Another factor is that it depends on the night you go as the crowd moves around e.g. Nuth is particuarly good on Wed. & Sat. whereas Monday is grab-a-granny night there. I'm not sure what the busiest night at Espaço Joá is.

Availability is increasing overseas, my local off-licence sells 3 brands of cachaça i.e. Velho Barreira, 51 and Pitu as well as Skol and Antartica. Of course that may be due to the fact Roscommon town is now around 10-15% Brazilian.

Sectors 3,7 and 9 are sold out and there's only a few left in sector 5. Unless you know the city it may be easier to get it off a broker in Copa or Ipanema. However the above prices will give you a guide as they have gone up quite a bit since the 2004 figures I posted above. Brokers may also have tickets in the sold out sectors.

surprisingly Vila Isabel came first this year
With Venezuela's Petro-dollars (they invested more than USD500,000), Vila Isabel won this year's carnaval parade! [Amazing enough, my carioca boyfriend is from Vila Isabel
]
Venezuela's flags could be seen in the celebration inside the rehearsal hall of Vila Isabel. There are rumours that Chavez will come to see the Champions Parade next Saturday.
For those in town there are still tickets available for the Parade of Champions (surprisingly Vila Isabel came first this year). They will go on sale between 8am and 4pm at the following locations (presumably tomorrow).
Tks for the info. I already passed it on to my Scotish friends who arrived in Rio yesterday night.

The prices we were quoted were in the range of 1500R$ for sector 4 or 5 in the suites, 300R$ in the upper deck and 1300R$ in the street level section.
(For anybody that does not know the exchange rate - ~$750, $150 and $650)
Had a great time in Rio...... The women are beautiful, the party is always on and the food is great............

Your post is a little unclear but I'm guessing you were quoted the following.
S.4 - R$1500 : There is no way there were referring to the grandstand (arquibancada) seats @ R$70. Instead they were offering you a box (frisa) which has room for 6 people. AFAIK R$1,500 could well have been less than face value.
S.5 - R$1300 : They were most likely offering you a box (frisa) or even a table & chairs (cadeira) which have room for 6 people. AFAIK R$1,300 may well have been less than face value.
S.5 - R$300 : Almost certainly the grandstand (arquibancada) seats which had a face value of R$140. Quite a mark-up and other brokers most likely had better deals.
FWIW even if you didn't want to spend big money you could have turned up and got a ticket outside for S.6 or S.13 for R$5 or R$10. Although these have a poor view you could at least have sampled some of the atmosphere inside.
If you think the women were beautiful you should come back again as many of the BYTs head out to Salvador, Buzios and Porto Seguro for Carnaval.
