The Ministries of Justice, External Relations and Tourism of Brazil published a joint decree establishing a visa waiver for tourism to nationals of Australia, Canada, United States and Japan during the period from June 1st to September 18, 2016.
Nationals of the above countries willing to benefit from this visa waiver must enter Brazil from June 1st to September 18 2016. They will not be required to prove the purchase of tickets to the Olympic Games in order to benefit from the visa waiver. After entering Brazil, tourists can stay without a visa for a maximum period of 90 days. From September 19 2016 onwards, the visa regime for the countries mentioned above will return to be the same as usual.
The unilateral visa waiver is solely and exclusively applicable to citizens of the aforementioned countries who will visit Brazil for tourism purposes only in that specific period.

I believe only Brazil embassy in India is asking for Olympic tickets. Actually I bought tickets through friends in USA/UK (Initially there was no ATR in India, it came only 6 months later than others), so if I submit those, they can create a huge problem.
If they don't accept, I will have to buy tics through Indian ATR and waste money. I don't understand why they are asking when no one else is.

Can't you convince them that you hate all sports and intend to stay far away from all Olympics events during your stay in Brazil? Surely business travelers aren't expected to buy Olympics tickets.

Actually, we entered Rio spectator while filling the form thinking that it might be just easier to get it. But then she made it tough by asking tics. We told her give a tourist visa, so she said now you can't get a tourist visa as you told us you going for Olympics. It is really madness. We also hold USA visa and are well travelers. My passport expires in 2018 but I have only 4 pages left.
I was thinking to try and apply again as tourist in case she does not recognize us. I have bought tickets from Dertour which has our names along with the name of my friend in UK on it. But it is in German and was worried that what if she claims it is not allowed and report something like fraud. She can say these tics are only for residents and we as Indians can't use. So if she creates havoc and if have power to report it as fraud and get it cancelled, then we will be in huge trouble.
I am having tough deciding how to tackle this stubborn embassy. We also traveling to Peru and Argentina and have got their visas.

Brazilian bureaucracy is often frustrating. Any Brazilian bureaucracy, for citizens and foreigners alike. I feel your pain, having experienced various incidents. All I can think of in your case is applying again and asking to speak with a supervisory level consular employee.
However, as to why they may be so infuriatingly picky........I answered questions about Brazil on another board and the vast majority (at the time Brazil's economy appeared to be doing quite well) were from Indian men without resources to show, asking how to get a visa, any visa, to go to Brazil with the intent to marry some woman (presumably also poor and desperate, and from a country where arranged marriage is almost unknown) the man had "met" on the Internet and corresponded with for some brief time. Clearly, a country that has far from full employment for its own citizens has reason to be careful whom they admit.
Obviously to us here on this forum, Brazilian officials should be able to differentiate between economic classes, and understand that Brazil is not so attractive in these present economic times, but perhaps stereotypes still rule.

Thanks Vida. I understand we have to apply for visa for most of the countries because of the reason stated by you, but Brazil is by far the toughest. They say and ask things without any reason. They told me to come on 1st July (I leave from here on 22nd July) stating that it is too early to apply. When my friends applied last Sept, they took 1 month to give visa.

Rio is beyond Beautiful, it's amazing
RIO... it's an amazing, vibrant, colorful city, it's beyond beautiful.... I've been to Brazil every month this year, back to Rio on Tuesday and can't wait!!!

It is "scienfantastic" that the falls in Iguacu have apparently moved to RIO (as the first video is titled in big letters), with the video cutting back and forth. Lol.
Both videos are gorgeous.
Both IMO could have had a more appropriate selection of music......some samba, or maybe bossa nova.
