Avis seems to do things the same as Budget -- you don't know the actual price because you must book the reservation without seeing the effect of the discount codes and coupons. How do you folks book with Avis? I don't really want to go thru with a reservation not really knowing what it's going to cost me.

Yes. The price on the reservation is the price you will pay, and it's based on the discount code you enter. If you have discount coupons, they are deducted from that price at time of checkin. You enter the coupons when you make the reservation. If they are not valid for some reason, the system will not accept them, and it will tell you so when your making the reservation.
I've never had to pay more than the reservation called for.

Aren't Avis and Budget owned by the same people?

I once picked up a rental at a Budget airport location and was told the car was "mistakenly" parked in the Avis lot as the car jockey made a mistake. :rolleyes:

thanks. It's good to have the peace of mind that you won't pay MORE than the reservation calls for. But sometimes, the reservation may not be worth booking unless the coupon code will work. I would rather see the coupon dedcuted from the reservation in black and white on the computer during the reservation process, rather than trust that it will be successfully deducted at the counter.

I got an Avis car once with a Budget hang-tag on the mirror.

The coupon is accepted on the reservation, just not deducted until actually presented. I can understand why they need to see that you actually have a valid , unexpired, couon before deducting. I use coupons all the time and I have never had an issue (other than expired coupons).

good code with unlimited miles - one way?
 

Hi - I have search through this thread and tried many of the codes, but the best ones all charge per mile on a one way rental.

I used A97220 for a one way within the state of IN and it is unlimited miles. I tried the same code and many others for a one way between states IL--IN and cannot get the mileage to be unlimited.

Anyone know of any good codes?

Yes, in fact, the name of the company is called AVIS BUDGET GROUP. It's a break-off from the former Cendant. AVIS BUDGET GROUP trades on the NYSE as CAR.

Using a Prepaid Rate on Employee Codes?
 

What happens if I use an employee rate on a prepaid booking - any experience? I don't intend to, due to risk, but the Cedant rate is looking crazy right now :)

I'm looking to rent a car in Nice (airport) for 4 days in June/July, and am after a Convertible. They seem to be going for roughly £450, or £375 (prepaid) with the 25% off AA code. I also want something that a 24-year-old can drive without penalty.

No codes are bringing the price down reasonably, except the Cedant one. Any suggestions? Any upgrade tips, so I can book a lower category?

I just talked to Avis airport location where I'd be picking up the car. They didn't know anything about the LDW waiver. I want to clarify, if you use this coupon code do you just assume you have the LDW waiver ... or should the agent be aware of it? I want to take advantage of this discount. It will be help me keep the cost of this trip down. Do you have to be a member of the frequent user program (what ever it's called) to qualify for this waiver?

Is LDW a concern for most renters? Most people's auto insurance covers them when they rent (but obviously one should confirm this before they rent and pass on the rental car company's LDW).

... if 'most people' are US/Canadian drivers hiring in the US or Canada, perhaps. Others should check, especially when outside North America.

Does this mean that if I have a problem w/ Budget that I can contact Avis about it? I have 5k DL miles that Budget has not released to me since Nov '08. They were supposed to be part of the DL 150% promo. That would have put me n the 100% threshold.
