A little help and advice

I'm going home for Christmas. I never had to rent a car in my hometown before. Truth be told i've never rented a car, personally. That said I have a concern regarding the Avis codes and rates. I used a code that got my five-day rental down almost 50% to $260. When confirming the reservation the price showed $432, and that the discounts would not be taken until at checkout. How can I know what i'll be paying? I'm really nervous about the difference in the price.

Welcome to FT!

What code did you use? Ususally you will see the total on your confirmation. It could be that your code reduced the rental but not the inscurance etc.. That´s how a higher price might be put together.
And yes, if you have a valid voucher, this will be collected at the rantal agency. you can always call ahead and have a price confirmed.

I selected the full size using AWD# K199060. With that code I get the rates below:
Subcompact 144.00 USD
Compact 160.00 USD
Intermediate 175.00 USD
Standard Size 191.00 USD
Full Size 206.00 USD

The subtotal w/ tax showed $260 and change. I confirmed, and the screen jumped to a confirmation, and a completely different price. it said the discounts wouldn't applied until i am at the desk.

Rates with no code entered. Note: they're lower than my own company rates!
Subcompact 398.99 USD
Compact 403.74 USD
Intermediate 432.24 USD
Standard Size 451.24 USD
Full Size 455.99 USD

Code is valid in Florida. Would try K444404.

I'm headed to Buffalo for the holidays. Any thoughts on what might work there?

SwissCircle Dec 22, 2008 3:58 pm

Try G417900. You may be getting high rates because of a "Holiday Blackout" period, but I doubt it. The business is so bad, and they are running so many specials, that I don't think the normal blackouts apply.

I have never been asked for an ID. This code and the Amateur Sports Assistance Program code, D005297 ,typically give me my best rates. Neither have ever presented me with any ID issues.

I have noticed that these codes exclude me from qualifying rentals with AvisFirst. I earn a bunch of e-music (worthless) but I don't earn the points towards free weekends. The savings are worth more to me than the free weekends.

Does the citicorp discount give free ldw?

Welcome to FT!

There are 91 pages of information on just Avis in this thread, and multiple codes. If you don't like those, look at the other car rental agency threads and you will find many more. I'm not one to yell "do a search" but in this case it's appropriate.

does anyone know of a code that WAIVES the one way fees. Normally, I hadn't had a one way fee fro IAD to RIC or CHO, but now they are charging some percentage of the rental amount.

I don't think any code will do that. I had some luck with U405347 from time to time.

Go to hertz.com - they have lease-buster specials starting at 499/mo for as many months as you need it, provided you pick up the car before March. There is also a 100/off coupon you can use.

Avis has nothing to match coupon wise - I couldn't get my local Avis shop to match the Hertz offer, so you're better off dumping Avis.

Sorry about your job :(

https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/speci...TabLink=tlink1

Rate code is MMFL

Add this coupon:

Save $100 on Monthly Rentals

* Save $100 on monthly or multi-month rentals
* Valid through March 31, 2009.
* Promotion (PC) Code Number 123325.

Hi Phil:
I need a 4 weekday rental in Florida and found this code which gave me an EXCELLENT rate of only $100 for most cars incld mini-van! This sounds too good to be true.

Do you know where this rate comes from?
Is this safe to use?

I do not want to be asked to present some ID/ voucher and then forced to pay rack rate.

First first trip with babies so cannot afford any hassles.

thanks,
htwooh

Are they going to ask for ID? Is this safe to use? Don;t want any hassle and be forced to pay rack rate on site.
