I'm looking to book a weekend rate at SAN and am noticing that my Wizard number bumps up the rate massively. For example. I have a 2 day rental with only the H876503 AWD (got it either upthread or on a different thread) for 73.XX including taxes. Based on the comments by SFO777, I thought I'd put in my preferred id and when I do (even with the same AWD and an additional coupon MUWA237) my rate now jumps to 186.42...

What gives?Anyone have any clues?

TIA

Very strange.

I tried this Friday-Sunday, no sign in and got $41.38+ for two days (Intermediate/Pay Now) and $51.98+ for Pay Later.

Then I signed in and got $49.38+ for Pay Later but with no Pay Now option.
All the usual AWD suspects were about the same or slightly higher.

what would you recommend?

use the code and no sign-in to lock in on the lower rate (but they may ask for more details etc.) If I was only getting ~$10 higher I could live with that for the security of not having to talk to a person at the counter...but for $100, I'm not sure.

Call Avis and have them book the good rate and then give them your Wizard number. Since any schmoe can book this rate, they should be able to give you that rate. Or not. Good luck.
Even if you have to talk to someone at the counter, its not like this rate is tied to a super secret AWD.

any experience with calling AVIS for making reservation? Do they ask for proof etc for a specific AWD? Sorry for the many questions, I'm not a frequent AVIS renter.

You don't need an AWD. Tell them it's offered on the Avis.com without logging in.
If they book it, or even if you book it online and manually enter your info, there is nothing to worry about, even if you stop at the counter.
The concern some here have is being asked for ID when using a corporate AWD. That doesn't apply here.

Hi,

I'm trying to use the BA Exec AWD along with the coupon code MUWA003 ($35 discount at counter) for a booking in the USA (i'm a uk resident). You can't seem to add coupons to the avis.co.uk site, so i spoke to someone and they said that they can retroactively add this to the booking. However it only works with pay later, and its more than $35 extra to pay later!

I looked at booking on the global avis.com site, and the rates appear slightly better and i can add the coupon. It then seems I will get and additional $35 off at the counter. However I chatted with an agent and they advised me not to book using the avis.com site from the uk as i may not be completely covered and that they couldn't macth the rates on there either. Is that true? How else can i utilise this or any other coupon code?

thanks

No.
You bypass the counter, walk to your car, show your DL at the gate and drive off.

Do preferred members have to pay in advance or only at time of return?

Time of return, unless we select Pay Now option, if offered. They have our CC on file so that's one of the reasons we get to bypass the counter.

Thanks SFO777. I tried to do the booking again today (same parameters as before - the rate jumped when Preferred was input) and this time the rates stays the same. It does not go up ~$100.

It also offers me to Pay now so I'm curious about whether it makes sense to pay now to lock in the rate or since I'm preferred I can have them directly charge my card upon return. Any experience with the quoted rate changing arbitrarily considering that my reservation is about a month out.

TIA.

Once I have booked my (pay later) reservation, I have never had my rate change.

Anyone use it w/o issues?

I know it has been a while, but how did the rental go Barry?

If I use this code, will I be asked to verify my employment or show ID? Do they typically check when you use a corporate code? Am nervous to do this.

Thanks!

They never checked my LM ID using that code.

Looking for a valid AWD for Germany that will lower my rate. I'm staying 17 day's renting from Frankfurt, basically everything for intermediate comes up as $600 or more after taxes. I appreciate your help!

Since you have not completed your FT profile, it will be difficult for us to help you. Why? Because that might lead us to what country version of avis.com you are using for your search, was it avis.com or avis.de or avis.??. Of course, in the alternative, you would also tell us what the site address was. Also, we will need the location you wish to pick up from (the FRA airport location or somewhere else, such as a train station or hotel location), and the dates you have in mind, because of course June 1 to June 17 will probably not be the same rates as December 15 to January 1, will it? Finally, you might consider sharing with us what AWD numbers you have already tried, along with any coupon codes you have tried, so we have something as a comparison and starting point.
