Off topic, has anyone encountered any questions etc. when using the Lockheed martin rate? It is about $15/day cheaper for me right now compared to any other rates.

TIA

Flew into Denver a few weeks ago and was asked what company I worked for and if I had any ID. Was able to go through but this was the first time I've been asked

Who asked you? Are you Preferred?
And welcome to FT!

jackblack10 Apr 15, 2013 10:23 am

I am not preferred. The agent at the checkout asked me.

That makes sense. As Preferred, the only Avis person you see is after you are in the car driving to exit... the exit gate DL checker. And he doesn't care about your AWD.

jackblack10 Apr 15, 2013 10:34 am

Does the same hold true for pay it now? Would you be better off to just pay it now and not deal with the checkout agent?

Unless you are Preferred, I would think that you still have to visit the rental counter. Not sure whether it would help you avoid any scrutiny.

jackblack10 Apr 15, 2013 11:59 am

Is there any downside to becoming preferred then?

No.
You bypass the counter, walk to your car, show your DL at the gate and drive off.
