is it a one-way rental? It's very rare to see no miles on a round-trip rental unless it's a very specific model.

It appears to be a AVIS discount code not a corporate rate.

I booked with this code and received an email warning from Avis that I used a corporate code to book and I better bring ID with me to pick up the car

I used the HP code (Best I had found here and for many many years) and was never asked for a business card or ID, they have now changed it to provide a corporate email address to book on AVIS.com (within the last 30 days)
Those emails you mentioned went out to everyone using a corporate AWD. I received it too several times after doing my last 2 HP Code bookings.
Worst case they deny you and you can use a Costco or AAA or another back up code you have ready to go or pay the going rate,
It's going to depend on the individuals risk tolerance level.
