As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

Hi,
I'm looking to rent a Volvo XC 90 at Milan LIN from Jun 18 to Jun 25 as Preferred Plus, and my best quote is EUR 584 with H749900 (make a wish). According to Avis's website though, that code should only be valid at participating U.S. locations.
Has anyone run into problems using this code in Europe?
Thanks,
J

I am using AmEx to pay for it, so insurance isn't really that big of a deal for me. Is it true that preferred members go straight to the stall to get the car without going to counter? Then I guess I won't be asked to show ID since I am not going to counter, right?

If you're going to post your own corp code in order to earn free days, it's nice to at least be up-front about it, especially when the only posts you've ever made on FT are to push your personal code.

It depends on what you mean when you say "ID". Yes, you must show your license at the gate, but it's extremely rare for gate agents in the lot to ask for company ID for eligibility. On the other hand, I've heard of a number of instances where the person was preferred but they were asked to go to the counter first and then asked for ID to prove eligibility there.
Bottom line, if you've made it to the parking gate, you're probably home free, but don't assume that you will never be challenged for ID just because you are Preferred.
