Wanted to ask the Avis experts for help on an upcoming trip. I usually book with Hertz, so am not too familiar with Avis codes.

1/11-1/12 (pickup at LIH and drop off at the Hyatt Poipu)
I found A126900 for $32+ taxes (Lockheed)
OR A113400 for $24.50 + taxes (State of FL)
OR G930700 for $35 + taxes (not sure what company??)

I'm wondering if I should risk the FL code and also book a separate Lockheed one as a backup? Any other coupons to get the rate down more? Any other AWDs that are good? I read the last 4 pages and pulled my codes from there.

Thanks so much!

Can't get lower than those, but a safe one is A074800 for $46 all-in for intermediate.

Keep in mind that using any corporate discount code you are not entitled for always carries a risk. One is not "safer" than another. All is takes is for a counter agent to ask for proof that you work for the firm in question. Lots of people here will say they have never been asked for proof, and I don't doubt their veracity, but there are plenty of people I know who have been asked for proof and when they couldn't provide it, they were charged the walk-up rate instead which for someone like Hertz or Avis can be an eye-popping number.

Additionally, many of these corporate accounts include CDW/LDW and even if if they don't a report goes back to the company anytime there is an accident claim since it can impact their negotiated rates. There are a number of horror stories on FT where someone booked on a corp code got into an accident and they were in a bad spot due to the damage claim.

I'm just saying be aware of the risks before you try to use one.

PS--The code above (A074800) is for "Citicorp Leisure Travel".

Avis Discount Codes

Thank you both for your help! I think I will go with the citi code since it's much safer. :)

I've been looking all over and trying lots of different codes, but was hoping maybe someone here could help me out.

We are looking to get a minivan from MLI (moline airport)..
Pick it up Wednesday 1/22/14 in the PM, and drop it back off either late Sunday (1/26) night or early Monday (1/27).

I had found some awesome discounts but then some others take away unlimited miles.
We have the AARP discount code...

We are hoping to get a minivan for under $300..
If anyone has any other codes or discounts that could help anything would be greatly appreciated

You can get a Minivan with Budget for $283.96 all-in with unlimited mileage through Travelocity. I set the pickup and return times as noon (1/22-1/27). Feel free to adjust them to suit your specific needs by clicking the 'Change your search' link at the top of the search results page. Hope this helps!

longer term rates

Anyone have a code that works predictably well for longer term rates? I've tried several rates for an upcoming trip to Florida, none really work too well AND it seems many expire out after rentals of 30 days.

In the most cases, you'll have to return to the rental office every 30-day to re-up the rental anyway, so you might just be better off booking multiple consecutive rentals. The other reason this is advisable is that rates often drop as the rental date approaches. You can periodically search for lower rates, or you can just input your future reservations into AutoSlash.com and we'll let you know if we find a better deal.

Thanks to all who have contributed great AWDs over the years.

I have been watching the rates for an upcoming trip to FL and just hit a great rate using AWD # C682300

It is an Air Canada aeroplan code that gives you 2000 AP for renting a 'larger vehicle' according to the AP promotion.

Entering the code into my reservation gave me an $85 total for a one way from FLL to RSW with unlimited mileage.

To get it to $85 I also used the $20 off coupon off the Avis website for $ day rentals.

EDIT: This was for a 'standard class' car.

Hello. Newbie here. I will now be in need of an AVIS rental every week. I need it for the day. Pick up at 8am and return at 5pm. My rates are $60 SFO, $50 SJC and $55 OAK. Does anyone have a suggestion for less? I have to pay out of pocket and once a week will add up. Appreciate it guys.

I can't tell you this for sure - but most of the "points" promotions require a coupon code. The AWD is for pricing, and the Coupons are for the points.

Now, it *could* be that this deal is different but in the last six years of weekly rentals from AVIS, I've never seen simply an AWD give you points.

You might check the fine print?

EDIT: OK, I stand corrected. I read the fine print, and dont see anything about a coupon code. Interesting.

I'm looking to rent a Camaro SS out of SEA from 2/8 - 2/15 and the cheapest I've been able to get it is $892 (including taxes & surcharges) using A177232 and pay now. That's still too much - is it possible to get it down to $600 range all inclusive or have I gone mad?

You might have a better chance booking a full-size and inquiring about an upgrade to a Camaro. That can work out even better than you were expecting.

Also, if it doesn't work, just hold on to the reservation confirming the Camaro, but chances are you upgrading to it at the counter will work out better for you.
