Been looking for a car rental for my son who is 18 in Michigan (One of the states that mandates under 21s) to Toronto. Rate A442100 even seems to waive the underage fee and it even seems to lower the minimum age in other states.

I switched from another AWD I had to A442100 for a 4 day rental. Dropped the total by $106!

I just tried A442100 renting for 3+ days at YYZ and it dropped the total by $129 with unlimited Kms, not bad at all!! :), hopefully not asked for ID.

Standard SUV Will I be okay using A126900 which I believe is Lockheed Martin? Thanks in advance for any input. If you aren't eligible for the AWD, it's considered fraud. Nobody knows whether or not they will ask you for proof (but now that you posted dates/location/AWD/class reserved, they're more likely to know to ask for proof). Even if they don't request it at pickup, if anything happens during the rental, they will investigate at that point. This will void any insurance through Avis (even if you paid for it) and most likely credit card or any coverage from your own auto policy since it wasn't a legal rental. |

As long as you work for them, yeah you're fine.

This will void any insurance through Avis (even if you paid for it) and most likely credit card or any coverage from your own auto policy since it wasn't a legal rental. Having said that, Avis could (and will) void any insurance coverage and pass any liability and legal costs to the renter using the code. If the code includes LDW, the credit card will not pay on any damage claim...and of course Avis could place the renter on a DNR list. If the renter is in an accident and creates a liability, the renter is going to have a big problem to deal with unless they have their own auto policy that covers rentals...and this means (regardless of discount code or not) any renter who does not have their own policy and does not purchase additional liability coverage is looking at a potentially HUGE cost in the event of an injury accident as the car rental companies only carry the mandated state minimum coverage. The safest bet is to use a code that does not include LDW, but if someone does use such a code, they should have their own personal auto policy that covers rental car damage and liability at the same limits as their personal auto and umbrella policies (almost everyone here has an umbrella policy, right? ;)) |
Hi all. Does anyone know if there is a better code than Deloitte for a European rental in a few weeks' time? Many thnaks in advance.

I didn't see anyone post Club Carlson's code, which is only $2 more expensive than Costco and better than any other codes I've tried here for international (Spain).
Here it is: G639300 |

Using a discount code you're not entitled to is not technically fraud or illegal, even if the Avis T+C insist it is. Legally, Avis has made no attempt to block or limit access to these codes or change codes that appear online - they could alter the booking system to limit access to profiles that include an email address from that customer's email domain - because access is unrestricted, they cannot claim harm from their use or make a bogus claim the rental was "illegal".
But we know that AVIS staffers watch this forum, so posting that you are using a code you're not eligible for may get your rental cancelled, or as you indicated put on the DNR list. My question is... why risk it? Whats with the idea of being able to use something you're clearly not entitled to. |

This is a civil issue, not a criminal one, so "illegal" is a stretch.

My question is... why risk it? Whats with the idea of being able to use something you're clearly not entitled to. The main point of my post was a gentle reminder to everyone that when you rent a car, and do not have your own auto policy, you're basically on the hook liability-wise no matter what - code or no code. The rental company will carry state minimum (if the state requires it), and that might be less than 50k. Credit cards do not provide any liability coverage. In my case I opted for a non-owners liability policy (just $200 a year) for 100k/300k/50k standard coverage. In a worse case scenario, using a code with no liability insurance carried by the renter can open both the car rental company and the code owner to a liability claim - and both of these parties will go after the renter to recover any losses and legal fees - this would be a royal mess and certainly more expensive than being without collision coverage and having to buy the rental company a new car in the event of a total/salvage accident. If you carry your own liability, that is one less big risk to worry about....however no is going to be arrested or charged with a crime for using a discount code, and a rental company has no civil case against a renter for just using a code on a rental as the rental company has made no effort to curtail the use of the code, either by email domain login, keeping the codes off the Internet via refresh or other protective means. They can't sit there passively, read a Internet message board and take no action to protect these codes. |
Anyone have a good rate for one-way rentals? My corporate rate charges mileage on a one-way rental :(

Well the reason is easy to quantify - saving hundreds of dollars a week. In my case, the savings are more substantial because I rent a car almost full time....but I do not use a code with LDW.
The question was more, "why do we think its okay in today's society to use a code that clearly we're not entitled to, and while its perhaps not *illegal* its certainly against the AVIS T&Cs"? While its not criminal theft, you clearly are 'stealing' money from AVIS because you're violating their T&Cs. I guess its a moral issue. |
