As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

Exactly. I'd buy a premium subscription in a heartbeat if Randy negotiated the best available deal for his FT community - a discount code which would be the lowest available (guaranteed by the travel provider) and only bookable through the FT booking engine (to be developed) so the provider is assured the discount can't be shared online and redeemed by non-affiliated persons.

If I knew I was getting the best possible deal, I wouldn't have to spend an hour chasing coupon codes or trying 50 different combinations of codes and coupons. Airlines could offer a 5% affinity discount and hotels could offer their standard corporate discount rate.

We are a market segment that every travel provider should be targeting and incentivizing - either that, or they need to stop bellyaching every time we use a code for 'XZY Corp'. At least they got our business - otherwise the rental/stay/ticket would have gone to another provider.

Hey Letts good luck with the attitude and the company.
Hope you still have a job at the end
This has been one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen.

Fighting talk - I love it.

It is a shame that Mr Letts does not concern himself with security matters that concern me like the european stations where the cars are rented all from the same place miles away. Or the "Diesel" stickers on the side of the car. They might just as well say "I'm Avis. Steal me or From Me"

Quite ridiculous.

To me, this attitude of Avis encourages double booking. If Avis will not give you the rate, walk away to the second reservation with another company. I don't think there is much they can say if they deny you the rate and you walk away.

oh, I almost always have a backup - although I think car rental companies are going to be dinging us for this in the near future - the no show fees.

but, I have also had the case that with a reservation, sometimes I walk up or go to another and ask what they have. I would say 50% of the time, I get a CHEAPER offer. then, I just ask the rep to cancel the one I have. :-)

Anyone use the farmers code lately? A972200 I just checked it, it would drop my one way for tomorrow (thanks Stormageden) about 50$, which would help a LOT!

Any ideas about how many miles one gets, and if it customers since farmers IS my company

I never noticed that the discounts were affected by a one-way reservation.(using G417900) I do a lot of one ways, and the rate is always the same as rt. The only thing I have experienced is that almost none of the coupons can be used for 1 way.

I saw the post above and tested A972200 for a one way rental between two airports and it offered a a rate which is half the other quotes. Thanks, nmenaker.

The catch is it only includes 125 miles but my trip is shorter, so it's perfect.

I have never seen a limited mileage rental offered in the US by a major car rental company. This is a good option. I am only renting the car for a few hours. Win-win situation, and yes, Lettsie-boy, I happen to have Farmer's insurance.

the rental I setup had NO MILES with it, but at .25 a mile it was still 60$ cheaper. Now, the downside. I had two reservations, I cancelled the more expensive one about seven hours before pickup - got the confirmation email and everything.

Picked up the rental for the variable one, drove it parked it, handed it back - what did they do, they gave me the rental which I HAD CANCELED. Haruphf!

Avis Venice Italy

FYI, I know there are a lot of discount AWDs posted for Italy that don't have a known association. I played with a lot of them for an upcoming rental and got a rate of ~230 Euros for a big car. When I used the Hilton HHonors AWD (K851000) I got a rate of ~240 Euros. Whenever I tried any of the odd codes, it would fault out at the last page due to "technical errors" but had no problem confirming with the HHonors AWD.

Maybe Avis can sue you - but is this really the correct way to handle it?

So, let him blow his fire and brimstone - the only real risk any of us have is losing a reservation or getting blacklisted from Avis. If they want to get rid of me as a customer because I'm using a code that saves me $5-10 a day and got my business instead of it going to a competitor, well they are dumber than they appear to be.
whats to stop a person from setting up an alternative account and just use their work address? just use a different credit card and their goes the blacklist or am I missing something here

there are many ways to skin a cat or at least beat the avis threats and system
