Speeding Fine
I rented a car from Avis in Germany over the Christmas and New Year period, while there I was caught out by a speed camera. I believe I was roughly 8km/h too fast.
Would Avis send a note saying I have been charged or just charge my Amex? Happy to pay the fine, but surprised that I haven't been charged yet, five weeks after I was snapped on camera.
I have rented from Avis a few times a year for the last six or so years, but usually I stick to the speed limit, so have no experience.

You'd be charged the admin processing fee to pass on the deetails to the police or whichver authority enforces the fine in that country.
It is up to them to then send you the fine.
I'm still to receive the details of the speeding I allegedly committed in France in 2013... :-)

You will know if you are getting a ticket if Avis charges your credit card their (outrageous) administrative fee to pass along your details to the authorities; then you'll receive (most likely by snail mail) an actual ticket in the mail with a fine.

Thanks everyone.
I have been caught speeding in Germany twice before, but that was with my own car when still living over there. Both times I had the fine within two weeks, so not hearing anything after five is making me a little nervous.

If Avis has not yet charged its fee, it means that it has not yet been contacted for the details. Until that happens, the citation cannot even be completed and mailed. Perhaps you have been lucky and the tags were obscured, the camera lens dirty, or any other number of possibilities. As the only connection between you and the vehicle is Avis, if that does not happen, it will just be a ticket which can't be identified.

This post was a clear case of "speak of the devil", I got a letter from Avis yesterday stating that they are going to charge me €29.75 admin fee and that the fine will be charged directly by the council in question.

Just to bring this to a conclusion:
After receiving the letter from Avis four weeks ago, I hadn't heard from the German authorities. As I didn't want any problems over unpaid fines, I decided to ring them. They told me as it was just a €10 fine and the postage would have been almost as much (really?), they closed the case. Very happy about this outcome.
