It seems they stuffed up a good thing when they started to get a bit too greedy, now they obviously aren't selling as easily as they used to.
They must be really desperate if they a) brought back LH redemptions and b) keep extending the sales promos

are there still any loopholes left or all are closed. Yes/No would suffice.

My beef is that LH F isn't really working (ie. SFO-MUC on 12/13) even though I could see/book it on UA/AC. I would have bought the miles for that, but now maybe I'll just book w/ AC and pay the ~$400 in surcharges b/c LM's booking engine makes me want to pull my hair out

It is a bite and switch, is it really that hard to comprehend it? They need to sell the miles, you need an initiative to buy. They managed to create quite a buzz this round, hands down. They are not as stupid as most of us believe them to be.

At what point do you know if it lets you book? I would hate to buy miles only to be unable to use them!

That's unfortunate. Means I have to buy points to see whether it errors out.

I think at this rate, we'll see even higher bonus promotions soon.
LM was indeed too greedy when they killed the award chart AND upped the cost of miles last year...

Think I'll buy when it hits a 200% bonus. Any chance we'll see that before 2016?

It will error out before the points confirmation so I'm not sure you do.

I'm going to guess that the profit maximizing price for miles is where many people would say they're very tempting and if they had an immediate use for them they'd definitely buy. It's generally not optimal to sell them so cheap that a quorum of people think they're a no brainer.

Based on how they've been fine tuning these promos over the last couple months, I'd venture a guess to say they're going about as far as they're comfortable.
