Ok thanks for that information. I knew that but hadn't thought about it. I'll probably just bring enough cash with me to last so I can avoid fees.

I have never had any fees imposed on Cambodian ATM transactions when getting USD, excepting ATM usage fees. Nor have i come across any FX fees with Visa or MC transactions when the charges have been in USD; these charges are not DCC in Cambodia.

Now if you chose to extract Riel from the ATM, which is often an option, the transaction wouldn't be as straight forward.

Which would be better to choose? USD or Riel?

USD is really the currency there.
THe riel is basically used for small change.

Use USD only. Do not even bother about Riels.

Approved 2 days later! Do I just need to print out the letter and bring it with me when going through customs? I don't need to stop anywhere before customs to get an actual visa sticker on my passport?

Yes, print that pdf file they sent you and bring it with your passport ..
Just stand in the regular immigration lines...give the officer a copy of that visa letter.
The officer will place an entry stamp in your passport (they will keep that visa paper copy).

Remember to print TWO copies. You need to hand them the second copy when you "exit" the country.
It sounds silly...but thats how it is.

If you have the E-visa printed (which will have your photograph), you will not need additional photos in hand.
I would suggest have a few dollars for your initial expenses in the city before you can get to an ATM.

That said, I almost always carry 4 or 5 passport photos in my backpack. You just never know when you will need them.

If you are going to Cambodia directly from your home, why not go ahead and pull out all the cash you will need in Cambodia when you can use the ATM for free?

I did not realize Cambodia ran on USD. On the way to the ATL airport, I handed the $200 in my wallet to my friend's kid who is like my adopted son and lives with me. Not only did I have to pay the ATM fees when I took the cash out in Cambodia, but the kid kept the $200! It was an expensive mistake.

I arrived without a visa and without photos (somehow managed to leave them at home ) and they charged me a few bucks (too lazy to look up exact sum that I quoted somewhere upthread), but they did NOT actually take a photo of me (I'm guessing they scanned my passport). And yes it took about extra 15 minutes over other pax.

For a visa extension this is exactly what they do. My TA charges $1 to scan my passport and that's sufficient for all gov entities involved.

PHN Transit VOA

Anyone had experience applying for a Cambodian transit visa on arrival?

I have tried to look at the official visa website https://www.evisa.gov.kh/ and do not see the Category D visa.

Think the fee should be US$15?
