This may be true.... but remember that they will take Pesos and apply an exchange rate that will benefit them, not you. It may just be a few dollars/pesos, but do keep this in mind.

Did you just do the day tour to Colonia Del Sacramento? Or did your spend the night? Just curious as I have one reward night booked at the Radisson in Colonia in June and a few travellers have said it's really only a day tour and wondered what you were doing and your impressions.

Just the day. Honestly I'm not sure what we would do with more time. Toward the end of the day we just lingered in a nice park, people watching. There isn't a whole lot to see in the historic quarter - I think a day is sufficient.

Definitely worth the trip. Also, buqebus is pretty nice. We just did tourist class but it isn't bad at all. Short trip, too.

I agree with just a day trip for Colonia. Unless you are an antiques aficionado and need to spend hours checking pieces in detail, one day is enough.

Two of us are flying EZE-IAD tonight. Can one of us line up to check in and the other one line up to pay the departure tax for both of us, or do we need to have our BPs/passports in hand already to pay the departure tax?

The airline will likely want both of you for the security questions. The departure tax folks just want your money so one alone can go.

Afraid not. You have to present the BPs when you pay the departure tax as they put a barcode sticker on the back of each BP which is then scanned as you pass through to security. The last few times I've been through EZE, the queues for paying the tax have been minimal so it shouldn't take long.

Thanks all for the advice! Indeed, the security staff (are they airline staff or EZE staff) wanted to interrogate both of us for check-in, and we also did have to have the BPs before getting the dep. tax stickers. EZE has so many lines...

4. Line up for security screening
5. Line up to check out from duty free if you buy something in the maze they force you to walk through.]
6. Line up for secondary security screening for liquids at gate (I assume only for US and other 3-1-1 destination countries).

This is hardly an EZE-specific thing. 2,4,5, and 7 are pretty much a part of any airport experience unless you have elite status ;). And 1 and 6 are for flights to the US. You won't experience that on a BA flight to London or a LAN flight to Santiago. The only extra queue at EZE is to pay the departure tax and even that will soon be a thing of the past now it is starting to be included in the ticket price.

I can think of many airports where the "jumping out of the taxi to sitting in the lounge with a Jack Daniels time" is far longer :) Last week with AA at EZE it was about 30 minutes.

I think that you missed a few:

0: line up to get your "Tax-Free" forms validated if you bought anything eligible for a rebate.

4.5 Line up for passport control.

5.5 Line up to turn in "Tax-Free" forms and arrange for rebate.

5.75 Line up at club lounge.

In my experiences, this is the longest wait. I usually leave at a not-busy hour (and the check-in is quick, and there is no tax booth wait). I don't know if the line always moves so slowly, but many booths are closed when I usually leave. Fortunately, I haven't flown directly to the US from there in years and so I also miss the extra gate check. All the more time I have to spend in the sorry lounges @ EZE.

LOL, I was on your flight. We were in the C cabin. Were you in the RCC prior to departure? Too bad we missed each other!

To make this post on point, everyone at the hotel said to get to EZE 3 hours prior to departure. It only took us 1 hour to complete all the steps necessary, but it helped tremendously that we could use the 1K/Business line; the economy UA line was atrociously long.
