Personal Platinum - They offered me the $200 AMEX travel credit via chat. I received the 50k points last year.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card (converted from SPG Amex).

Chatted online and asked for AF reduction/waiver. CSR started talking up the benefits and finally offered 20k Marriott points when I mentioned I was considering cancelling. Not expecting to be able to use the card’s benefits this year (actually didn’t get much use last year either due to the pandemic) so declined.

Most likely, I’ll cancel so I can consolidate spend on other cards. A shame as I really do like the card benefits but not if I can’t use them. I did consider downgrading but don’t really know if there’s much value in doing that vs applying for a new card in 2022 when likely to have some travel again.

Delta Skymiles Card - Any Luck Reducing Annual Fee?

My $250 annual fee for my American Express Delta Skymiles Business card just posted. I looked on this forum and on the Delta forum to see if anyone had luck in getting their fee reduced or similar due to COVID / lack of travel. I didn't see any posts about this topic.

If anyone has stories to share (either successful or unsuccessful) regarding getting fee reduced / additional benefit / statement credit, would you post your experience please?

Thanks,

Did you look in the threads here about retention offers for your credit card? You might be more likely to be offered some RDMs after a spend threshold than a fee credit/reduction.

Yes I did look and didn’t find any related to Delta SkyMiles in the last 6 months.

I assume you have Delta Platinum Business. There is a retention offer reported in November 2020, click HERE.

Thanks for merging my question from the general Amex thread into this thread, where I now see lots of discussion. Flyertalk's search must be pretty poor since I typed in a lot of words I see used in this thread, but my search didn't yield any meaningful results. Thanks again for your help.

Canceled my Business Gold card -- offered $300 for $4000 spend... Card opened in various forms (Gold, then Plat, the back to Gold) for 5 years. Didn't take it.

Amex Green - first annual fee posted, went into chat and was told there were no offers, which was a little unexpected. Closed card as I opened a Platinum a month ago.

I have Bonvoy Brilliant with AF coming up so I am in similar shoes. I thought the cert does not post until 2-3 months after the AF. I did not know that prorated downgrade is possible 30 days after AF hits.

cancel inside the 30 days and you get 100% of the AF back afterwards 0
downgrade at any point in time and get pro-rated refund of AF (think applies to the first 30 days too)

First renewal fee for Green hit. Some small regular spend after min spend hit. Zero retention offers via chat on multiple attempts. Better to keep trying via chat or to try for a different result by actually calling in?

Hoping for a 7.5k - 15k no spend retention like many Green card data points in this thread.

2020/2021 retention offers

BONVOY BRILLIANT
I received and accepted a retention offer of 20k Marriott points to keep my Bonvoy Brilliant card open today. AF doesn't hit until April. AMEX can claw points back if I downgrade or close the card within one year. I got this offer using the chat feature. A previous retention offer in December via phone call was for 10k points after $500 in spend, within similar restrictions about downgrading or cancelling the card within on year. I passed on that offer.

PLATINUM
Accepted 50k MR points to keep the card open with no spending requirement in November 2020. I received the offer via phone call with AMEX.

ASPIRE
Accepted a retention offer of 10k Hilton points after spending $500 in three months. I received this offer via phone call to AMEX in November 2020.

My annual fee for Green just hit and I called to cancel. There's really no reason to keep it anymore since I wasn't even able to use either the Clear or LoungeBuddy credits and I'm already earning 4 x on Gold. I have Citi Premier for 3 x on travel.

Offered 7500 points or $50 after $500 spending.

Spent 6.5k on the card last year, gotten $230 in Amex offers and cell phone credits, although I could've earned most of these credits on my other Amex card since they are now one per cardmember.

Should I cancel or take 7500 points?

There have been 12500 and 15000 offers as well (I received 12500). If you have time, try again, perhaps even flat out asking if there is a higher offer. Also, it remains to be seen if Amex will offer any extras on the Green now that the wireless credit has expired.
