The United gift registry has been discontinued.

Reminder: you must enroll and select UA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. Unless you check your bags or experience change fees, United has the fewest options for reimbursement because of the codes they use for transactions.

United does not sell giftcards. As of December 2016 American Express no longer reimburses MPX transactions.

Airline Taxes on Award Tickets
Doesn't seem to work anymore; see post 179 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25297196-post179.html and #391
Economy Plus and First Class Upgrade Fees
As of December 2016 there were conflicting posts; one stating that an upgrade to E+ coded as an "upgrade fee" and was, therefore, not reimbursed. Others said they were reimbursed as it was coded as "preferred seat upgrade." In February 2019, three separate FTer reported receiving varying amounts of reimbursement (dependent upon which card was used for the purchase) after purchasing an E+ annual subscription. The E+ subscriptions code as "preferred seat upgrade". Upgrading from E to FC will also not be reimbursed because it codes as a passenger ticket even when done after buying the original ticket. There seems to be a distinction between seat upgrades being reimbursed, while ticket upgrades are not.
Award Accelerator
I would not risk this. The last report of being reimbursed for Award Accelerator was for $68 on October 27, 2011. Every post about Award Accelerator since has reported "No reimbursement."
Eligible incidental fees include:
  • Checked baggage fees (including overweight/oversize)
  • Itinerary change fees
  • Phone reservation fees
  • Pet flight fees
  • Seat assignment fees (E+)
  • In-flight amenity fees (beverages, food, pillows/blankets, headphones)
  • In-flight entertainment fees (excluding wireless internet because it's not charged by the airline)
  • Airport lounge day passes & annual memberships
  • Onboard WIFI

E+ seats for $49 and $59 reimbursed - $49 and $51 reimbursements post date 11/23 but when I wrote the above post it was not showing in my account online. Haven't checked again until today but I'm assuming I would have seen it on 11/24.

Nice! I purchased two E+ seats today separately. $92 and $86. Both seats were for an international flight. I will report back as well.

On a separate note. Do you get priority boarding when you purchase E+ seats?

Not sure about international but on domestic flights its marketed as a separate perk/benefit to purchase.

I just added a pet for a previously purchased round trip in December, charged as two $125 fees. Will report back if they get reimbursed.

Is there a way to cancel the pet itinerary online or do you have to call in and cancel?

Thanks
Two pet fees purchased on 11/21 for $125 each
Reimbursed on 11/25. One reimbursement for $125, the other for $75

Will cancel the pet itinerary next week

do you really think even if that option is coming there won't be an option to purchase E+ post purchase?

You should re-read and comprehend what I wrote and maybe your eyes wouldn’t be rolling.

And it takes a few days for the credit to show up, AFAIK.

Last time it took like 4 days to show up for me, but I did them separate (added on after the fact).

Please post back in like a week or sooner if it shows up as a credit.
It's possible this, too, has been closed, but I think it's too early to tell, unless this was done a week ago.
So you're right. Even though UA refunded the ticket within 24 hours the pet fee credit still hit a week later.
Crazy system.

The point is that if this happens, it would change from a seat purchase to a cabin upgrade purchase.

Do cabin upgrade purchases currently get reimbursed by Amex, or only seat purchases?

Ie, you can buy anything, but if you want to know what's going to be reimbursed by Amex, you need to know not so much what you're buying, but exactly how it's going to be processed.

Both of my purchases were reimbursed. The date shows 12/1 but it wasn’t visible till today. Now to figure out what to do with the last $72.

They've always reimbursed food and beverage without any problem for me.

It's December and I have $130 United credit left on my Amex Platinum. I have no flights coming up be fore January. I think I will buy 2 club day passes. I may or may not be able to use them but I really hate leaving the money on the table with Amex. If I can't figure out what to do with this credit, I may just dump this card when the annual fee hits.

Did you buy the passes? I was thinking the same thing. I have the united explorer card and used my 2 free passes with my kids last week in Hawaii and was going to pay for 3rd pass but front desk attendant told me Happy Thanksgiving and let the 3 of in on two passes.

Do the day passes expire like the free passes with the Explore card?

Thanks

Yes E+ does work or an other cost for seat assignments.

Hi Guys,
I still have $80 credit left on my Amex gold card, since I won't be able to use this before the year end, do I get credit if buying UA lounge pass ($59) using UA app? Also does the pass itself have an expiration date? Kindly let me know if there is other creative use to get the credit? Thanks so much. First time posting a question, long time lurker on this forum, but just registered an account.
