I go to the same place for lunch like 3x per week, which is on the Small Business Map, and sometimes the bonus points have posted and sometimes they haven't. Some posted, were removed, and then posted again. Seems to be all over the place.

I'm getting similar "daily" postings on Delta (on a Delta Biz Plat I just opened), but they're phrased a bit differently (than on SPG), something like AMEX CO-BRAND BONUS.

Can't believe these are posting quickly! I am getting them under the Same posting tag as yourself. I can't believe one of my suppliers is on the list. I have spent 35k so far for a whopping 70k!

Those of you getting the SPG 2x bonus, are the points showing up after your statement closes? Or mid-statement cycle?

It sounds to me like mid statement cycle. Definitely on the Delta 2x bonus, the extra mile is showing daily for each day that a Shop Small purchase posts to my Amex Delta Platinum account.

And that's the same way I interpreted the SPG posts above. (In fact, it was reading about the SPG posts that led me to check my Delta account almost daily.)

Mine seem to be posting when the charge posts. I've had 4 SPG AX DEFAULT posts on Oct 25 and Oct 26. The ones from Oct 26 I saw the first time today. It's a lot of fun having extra points roll in.

Adding my data point on the Hilton no-fee card: on the Hhonors site, my monthly statement points show dated 10/23, and there's another Amex point bonus dated 10/26, which appears to be 3X my first charge under the promo.

I wondered what AMEX considers a small business and found this article. It turns out it varies by business classification and there is no straightforward answer.

For example, a Framing Contractor (NAICS 238170) can have up to $14 million in annual receipts and be considered small regardless of how many people it employs. A Breakfast Cereal Manufacturing company with the NAICS code of 311230—yes, even they have their own code—can have up to 1,000 employees and be considered small. (The official list of size standards by NAICS code is available here.)

If money is the size standard, the formula can be a little tricky. It uses a three-year average of your “annual receipts” as defined by the IRS. To calculate your annual receipts, you need to find the “total receipts” line and the “cost of goods sold” line and add them for each of the past three years. The average of these three “annual receipts” amounts will determine if you are considered small by the SBA.

I then went to the SBA site to try to figure out the annual receipt limit to be considered small. I got mired down in verbiage and links and never got there.

How does Amex get access to a company's annual receipts?

It appears that to be eligible for a Corporate card program a business must have a minimum of $10 million revenue. Less than that and applicants are routed to apply for Business cards. They do not necessarily use the same standards on the merchant account side.

However, in the case of this promotion we do not need to know the definition. If it's on their map it qualifies, otherwise not.

Fortunately, they are randomly more generous. We just bought tiles for a home project. Two of the three stores were on the map. The one where we bought was not. We got the points.

Yikes. The newest version of Firefox does not load the Shop Small map. Had to use Safari, which works perfectly.

...but its important to remember that it cuts both ways: I've had a store on the map not qualify (and I lost the argument with AMEX when I followed up).
