That membership provides free admission for the cardholder. Any guests who join will be charged at $27 per person. Note that the front desk person at the lounge won't have any idea whether your guests are free or charged, because there are a number of different kinds of memberships, and the lounge is just contracted by Priority Pass.

I am a lounge newbie. I have the Cdn amex plat card and I believe it gets me + 1 travel companion into a Priority Pass lounge.

Here is my question, I read somewhere that kids get in for free. Is that true and does the adult need to be a paying guest for the kids to get in for free?

i.e. with my Cdn amex plat, may I bring my wife and 2 kids into a PP lounge?

Does it depend on the receptionist?

I may give PP a call and ask.

TIA.

I have a US Plat and I think the PP card only lets the named holder in. But we both have cards and this both have PP memberships. So it's never come up. But I was checking for a trip with 2 kids and here's what I found.
Each lounge has it's own entry rules. Mostly I've seen children under 2 for free. Older kids pay the standard PP guest rate, usually US$27. Some lounges limit the number of paid guests on each card.
You can search the PP website or the app for the airports you're transiting. Remember, your membership is PP Select.
Btw, your card gets you into AX Centurion lounges and they have more generous family entry rules.

Thanks. Yes, 1st choice is amex centurion lounges. 2 airports (LAX and MCO) I will be visiting don't have centurion lounges. Looking forward to visiting centurion lounges at SEA (centurion studio), SFO and IAH.

The lounge attendant knows NOTHING about your Priority Pass membership. The lounge's rules determine how many people may physically enter the lounge, and the attendant records this information. Priority Pass bills you after the fact. The attendant cannot tell you if there will be a fee for your children to enter the lounge. (Some attendants will state that there is a fee, but they are guessing.)

Canadian Plat gets access to Canadian lounges (Amex Plat used for entry) for cardholder and [one companion] OR [a spouse and up to two kids 21 or under].

Just got back from my trip. Visited SFO and IAH amex lounges. No problem getting my 3 kids (all under 18) with my amex cdn plat card.

Lots of wine at SFO but IAH IMO had better food. Food at SFO, esp soups, was quite salty.

Unfortunately, didn't get a chance to my priority pass.

Figured this is the right thread to ask this question. Looking at getting the Biz Plat.

Looking on the AMEX site (Canada) it lists Servisair (now Swissport) as a member of the Platinum Lounge Benefit.

Platinum Lounge Benefit (12) Get complimentary access to Plaza Premium Lounges and Servisair Executive Lounges regardless of the type of fare purchased or the airline booked. Lounge access is complimentary for you, your spouse and two children under the age of 21 or one travelling companion.
I assume this info is out of date, because when I search the AMEX lounge list, Swissport lounges only seem to be accessible via the Priority Pass benefit which incurs a per visit fee on the Biz Plat card. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Not sure where you are looking, but this site still lists those lounges as separate through the Platinum Lounge Benefit, with 2 guests for free. Where are you seeing something different? When you refer to an "Amex lounge list", make sure that you are looking at one specific to the Canadian card, since the access rules are different depending where the card is issued.

My original link on Canadian benefit is here. This mentions Servisair and Plaza Premium lounges. After a quick google I turned up this list (warning PDF).

So in Canada it seems that the Plat Lounge Benefit is limited to Servisair or Plaza Premium lounges in Canada and a handful of lounges in SE Asia. Everything else (except SkyClub & Amex lounges) has to be on the Priority Pass.

That sounds right as it would be roughly consistent with what Amex offers in other countries--though in the US at least, the primary cardholder gets in for free when using PP, so sounds like the Canadian card is less generous in that regard. Guess it is up to you how much you value the various lounge access options--I don't know the Canadian market at all, but in the US there are a few different credit cards that provide PP on different terms, so if PP access is important to you it may be worth shopping around a bit more. Personally I find many PP lounges to be quite mediocre; if I had to pay per use I would probably never use them, so would not really assign any value to that version of PP membership.

In Canada, there is a difference between the Priority Pass memberships bundled with the personal and business Platinum cards. There is also a substantial difference in the annual fees. The Canadian Business card includes a pay-per-visit membership. (In the USA the business and personal fees and lounge benefits are aligned.)

majik's original question is whether the Servisair/Swissport lounges can be accessed directly by presenting a Platinum card or if the Priority Pass must be used. It appears that this question might be definitively answered here:

https://americanexpress.ca/platinumlounges

....but because I do not have a Canadian account I cannot enter. If this URL is stale the PDF file found by majik may also be stale.

So it looks like that CDN Biz Plat offers less lounge access than US Biz/Per Plat, as per the fee difference, CDN$399 vs US$450 fee. However CDN Personal Plat offers the most access with the steeper fee CDN$699, full PP membership access rather than per use PP Select membership offered by the other three cards.

Unless you are based at YYZ, the CDN Biz Plat isn't much of a deal with regards to lounge access.

USA-issued Platinum cards offer free entry to cardholders, with a fee for guests. This is not a good as the Canadian personal Platinum, but better than the Canadian business version.
