Fair enough. I had upgraded from PRG to Plat when they dropped the 15K MRP spend bonus and offered a 50K MRP upgrade bonus. I figure the partial AF credit for the Plat would offset the $195 AF for the PRG.

I applied and was approved for a new PRG with annual fee waived for a year. My Plat (which I got via upgrade and 50k bonus points) is up for renewal in April and I will cancel at that point. With the $100 airline fee credit and free road side assistant (so no need for AAA especially with fairly new cars) makes the card - net fee free.

For Plat insurance use this link and click on each insurance for details

Amex Premier Rewards Gold new benefits and higher annual fee, 6.1.2015

The PRG has more value to me than CSP because the airline partners have better mileage programs. With Amex I can transfer to All Nippon Airways and fly business to Southeast Asia for only 100,000 miles round trip. With CSP, if I transfer to Korean Air, the same business class flight costs 150,000 miles.

This thread is about Premier Rewards Gold (PRG), not Platinum.

I am adding insurance protection summaries to the Wikipost, highlighting differences between American Express and Chase in red. I will add Citi as time permits.

Sorry Mia. I meant to put PRG link, but got interrupted and messed up. Thanks for adding this info to the Wikipost as time permits.

I'm thinking about doing the opposite... On 6/1, get a gift card with the $100 credit, then upgrade to the Platinum and 50k bonus with the $110 credited for the prorated annual fee, bringing me down to a net annual fee of $340.

After getting $200 more in airline credit, I'll basically have no annual fee for either card for the year.

Personally, I would cancel the Amex Plat card completely and re-apply for the PRG card to get the 50K MR points after $3000 spend.

I'm not really fond of the idea of "upgrade" or "downgrade" between cards, especially with their policy of one bonus per lifetime per card type.

When I canceled my Platinum card this January, they offered to downgrade me to the PRG with NO bonus whatsoever. Glad I declined because few weeks later there was the 50K bonus for the PRG so I applied and got the bonus.

Or you can wait til they have another 100K signup bonus for the Plat card.

And depends on when your AF renews, you can get another $100 credit after January 1st, $200 credit altogether.

mia, unless I'm mistaken, the only CCs that cover travel on award tickets are the few Chase cards. That is a huge differentiating benefit and should be noted in the wiki.

If you know the specific benefits which cover award ticket travel please dive right in and edit the Wikipost. There are many such details missing, and anyone who notices should fill in what you know.

I wonder if this card will be considered a new product. I already collected a bonus on the previous PRG, it would be nice if I could collect again.

Doubtful. I think it'll be considered the PRG card as it is now, but with new features.
