Even more space seats are not exactly considered "upgrades" - it's not a business or first class seat, it just has more legroom like Economy Plus on other airlines. I definitely automatically got reimbursed for paying for these seats in the past just like I got reimbursed automatically for paying for Economy Plus on United or other airlines. Read through this thread and you will see data points of people getting automatic reimbursement for EMS seats, I'm unsure why my purchase didn't trigger it though.
My seats didn't get billed together, I paid for 3 and they were charged individually.

Thanks for the info. I just changed my flight selection from AA to Jetblue, can I immediately purchase the ticket or would I need to wait? and if I book it together for two passengers would it be separate transactions or together? I read above it seems to be separate.

Yes you can purchase immediately within a second of the change completion. And yes they will be separate transactions. Just make sure to first book the tickets and pay without selecting even more seats and then go back into the reservation and select seats and pay.

Thanks to FlyerTalk members who shared DPs, I could utilize my Amex Aspire credit.
My data point:
11/6 Purchased three basic economy one-way flights for $99, $99 and $88
11/7 Ticket purchases posted on my account. The transactions included all details (Ticket No, Passenger, Flight Origin-Destination)
11/9 $250 credit posted

Did you purchase these in separate transactions or on the same itinerary?

All were separate transactions. I wanted to keep per transaction charge under $150 and luckily all my one-way flights were under $100. If you check previous DPs, it suggests to keep the charge under $150 to trigger the credit.
