Current offer (as of 7/1/16):
"A special offer for Ameriprise Clients: $0 introductory fee for the first year, then $550. Additional Cards can also be added for an introductory fee of $0 for the first year, then $175 for up to 3 Additional Platinum Cards. Earn an additional 5,000 Membership Rewards points for every $20,000 in eligible purchases on the Card, up to 30,000 additional points per year."

(In 2015 the offer included 25k MR points for $3,000 spend, with $450 annual fee waived.)

Is this card a different product than the normal personal Amex Platinum?
Yes, by all indications this card is treated differently. Multiple members have received the bonus after previously having a personal Platinum card. Members have also been able to use the travel credit on this card even after obtaining the travel credit on a personal Platinum in the same year. (Post 363)

Do authorized users have a fee?
The fee for additional users is waived for the first year. You can add authorized users at $0 when signing up or you can add them later by calling the number on the back of your card.

My decision is "in progress", what should I do?
Many users report that they received an "in progress" decision initially only to be approved within the next 48hrs with no additional communication (recon call). Click here to check status.

Does one need to be an Ameriprise customer to be approved for this card?
No, one does not have to be an Ameriprise customer in order to get approved for the card, although AMEX could technically enforce the "rule" in their terms and conditions and either cancel your card or convert it to a "regular" Platinum.

Points for travel rebate with this card?

There were some other subtle differences I can't remember. I got this card with no annual fee the first year and 50,000 bonus sign up. Then I matched to a 100,000 bonus ID and they still gave me the 50,000 so I walked away with 150,000 points. Transferred them to Delta when they had the mileage transfer bonus, cashed out in Amex gift cards worth $2250, and got Delta Medallion status. Great deal.
Does this Platinum card offer the 20% rebate on points exchanged for travel with amex travel as the Business Platinum card does?

I don't know. I've since downgraded to Gold.

What airline will you be flying? You may not need the PPS card.
I'm actually flying Aeromexico internationally so I won't be in any terminals with a SkyClub. I actually called AMEX and they said that I need the physical card to sign up for PPS. At any rate, they did say that PPS will FedEx it for $15 so we'll see. I'll be flying out next week so it's cutting it close!

Correct.

Need your Platinum linked to your account to be able to get the perk.

Well, that was quick.

The first statement on my shiny new Ameriprise Platinum came out this past Saturday, instead of 30 days after the account was opened.

I paid it on Saturday, and the amount I sent already shows as credited, but no MR points are showing up yet.

Don't the MR points show on the NEXT statement?
I know AMEX has the funkiest rewards system...

So, they lag by 30 days? I thought they'd be credited right after the statement came out.

For example, my DL Amex Plat credits Skymiles the day of the statement.

With MR, they'll show the next statement.
So yes, they "lag" a whole statement period. So whatever MR you earned during this statement period, they'll be credited next statement. So on and so forth. Worst system ever.

You can check your MR in the Membership Rewards Portal under MR Summary or something of the like.

Provided you have paid the statement balance in full. Membership Rewards points do show online as pending a day or two after each statement closes, but the points are not earned until payment is received. After you have made the payment you can ask customer service to manually post the pending points. Ample discussion here:

enrolling in platinum benefits

Is there a way to enroll in benefits (other than the priority pass) online?

Nope, sure wish it was. Then again, I'm not an Ameriprise client so wouldn't be targeted by them.

You don't have to be a Ameriprise client.
