Careful with the assumptions!
Another, related issue I often see is elderly passengers seated in exit rows. I look at them and think, there is no way they are getting the window exit open in an emergency situation. I wonder if a passenger has ever pressed a flight attendant about this during the safety briefing.*
(*I was recently on a flight where they forgot to do the safety briefing.)

Forget age. I'm more concerned that there is no test for competency. And using my very low faith in the species, I'm surprised the over-wing exits are even used in any emergency I see. Just look at how many morons bring their carry-on out with them.
The bar is low, even for an able-bodied adult.

as someone who traveled with my now 9 and 6 yr old since they were both 3 months old around the world, we were never given an option to sit in exit row or allow to select exit row, also we were moved around due to certain rows didn't have extra mask to accommodate a lap child, to me it seams like they knew how to bend the rules for some dumb reason the none exit row person was to lazy to hold the infant

If babby had kept mommy up screaming for the past week, she just might yeet it to the next row and rip that exit door out of its frame.

Although since this was a lap infant, and assuming it was a domestic flight, it's possible that they didn't add the infant at booking, and therefore could have selected seats, but the lap infant would need to have been added to the ticket before going through security, where they look for a boarding pass to say "PLUS INFANT."

Similarly, I have 3 young children and I can confirm that when I am booked on the same PNR as any of my kids, the AA website/app do not allow any of us to select seats in the exit row. I couldn't even put myself with all the kids in non-exit row seats, then assign my wife to the exit row, so I think the only way to accomplish this would be to have separate reservations, with the adult booked separately able to choose an exit row.

Since never.
Obviously illegal, but like so many laws today seems theres no interest in enforcement.
Did you get a pic?
Id have attached it to an official FAA complaint to see if anyone there cares.
Since they dont much care if cabin doors stay on, likely not.

That said, we got away with it once in the 50 times flying with an infant, the gate agent was trying to rebook us and was very late and forgot the infant ticket, when we landed on layover and try to board our next flight, someone was in big trouble!!

All lap infants needs a ticket, you cant just bring a baby on board a plane, lets say the plane goes down, no info on infant on board? lets say your Epstein trying to smuggle a baby out of the country or state? The point is theres a manfesto of everyone, an infant is included to make sure no one is smuggling on the plane.
