I'm not sure this question goes here but it is related to upgrades...
I recently booked a trip for a party of 2 (one pnr). I'm plat pro and the other traveler is exp. Will upgrades clear based on my status or the other flyer's status? thanks for any hints or answers... |

It doesn't matter who books a reservation only the status of the travelers, prior to the airport your waitlist position should be based on their EXP status, however on the airport waitlist you will be listed separately according to each of your statuses. You can talk to an agent to fix it so that both of you are listed according to their EXP status but it takes manual intervention.
I can confirm that prior to airport control it's based on my friend's EXP status. Just had upgrades clear on the 2nd leg which is in the EXP upgrade window but not the PPRO window. |
ConciergeKey with companion (PPro) using SWU

9/18 DCA-DTW: cleared at the gate - #1 out of 8 on the wait list.
Amazing that this one got that tight. CR7 was booked only 1 in first class about a week ago. Its clear that AA was pushing and getting takers for $59 upgrades to F class. |
EXP w/ ~360K rolling LPs:
9/12 CLT/LHR SWU cleared before checkin (about 30 hours) 9/19 LHR/CLT SWU cleared at about 30 hours. |

For future reference, once you have cleared into R class for an elite comp upgrade, as you did from DFW to PIT, your cleared-upgrade status is transferrable to rescheduled flights when AA has IRROPS, like in this situation.

08/30 - DFW- FCO - Was #1 on list until T-1hr turn bumped to #4 on list, no one cleared. 09/11 FCO-DFW - #4 on list, battlefield upgrade to PE after boarding. No one cleared to J. Both flight were J0 for weeks leading up to flights, so I was very happy to get PE. Will lose a SWU when it expires though. |

The AC agent could have done this. Or a phone agent, as long as the new flight is not under gate control. The Gate Agents don't understand many of these arcane exceptions/ rules, and they will simply drop you onto the back of the standby list. You could have flown in First from DFW to PHL to PIT, sorry that it didn't happen that way.
