4x miles on AA purchases with Citi AAdvantage Executive Card through 12/31/22

Anyone know if "AA purchases" includes purchasing miles (from AA), or is it just airfare?
AA is an anomaly in the points-buying world as they process them directly, rather than thru points.com. (From personal experience, you get 5X on AmEx Plat for purchasing miles thru AA)
That might sweeten the pot a little for a miles purchase.
