Anyway I haven't receive any email from AA regarding this Million Miler program launch notification. Everyone received it:confused: |

You know, if you're going to protest this, and want people to join in your protest, you should probably have some actual logic supporting your viewpoint.
Cheers. |

Wow, really  here. So you'll really be no worse off with or without 1MM status; you'll still have Gold. That sucks why?

Everyone received it:confused: My wife got her email early today. (She's about 180K miles from hitting Lifetime Gold, and she should hit 1MM within the next few months.) But I guess that makes sense. She's a lot better looking than me. |
I'll belatedly register my disappointment that elite and other airline bonus miles are not counted. As a primarily domestic flyer it is usually easy to fly on AA and so partner miles don't make a huge difference in my totals. I look at UA's program that awards higher status for crossing 1MM, and it looks very competitive with AA's official new program.
AA certainly does not have the edge in MM programs now. Elite or class of service bonuses would certainly be a big leg up on the competition. |

I am at 1.1 MM.
Not much flying this year. Would love to reach the 2MM point, or atleast near to that. I most probably will be flying about 50K miles/yr for the next few years. Question for all the gurus out there: I have about 300k Marriott points. Is there any good way I can bring them into AA? Similarly, what is the best way to bring in Hilton points ==> not much, but around 30k points Have about 250k Delta miles, is there any good way to bring them in? Have about 40k United miles, is there any good way to bring them in? I will have about 300k SPG points by Nov1, and I will bring them in then. http://www.webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/ |
Why stay with AA?
At 1.4MM and devised my buying strategy to augment flying. EXP this year but that varies from Plt depending upon year. So it will take a long time to get to LTP and I might as well accrue mile to be flown on a variety of airlines for flexibility.
Will use exec card for now until "mile for mile" ends. After that, it is spread it out time. I'll fly enough to get PLT each year and then fly/buy elsewhere to give options using miles. Won't need AA credit card - will switch to develop a presence elsewhere. Not even bonus for elite status? Really? So much for loyalty.... |
Well, everything changes. I remember when EXP meant 300,000 miles a year: 100,000 + 100,000 bonus plus 100,000 if it was primarily international (sticker exchange) so that 1 million miles in a couple years was very easy.
|
Hmm. Too bad. Guess I'll call up TD Canada Trust and convert to a different credit card tomorrow. Pulled down a couple hundred thousand miles in hopes of making LT Gold (because Qantas no longer offers any AA miles on their cheap fares).
Shame, also preferred flying AA for the US for the miles I could get but seems I'll stick with *A now. Not for the redemption from AC of course, they don't match my flying patterns, AA still has better, but at least there I can keep Gold and get lounge access for free. |
I'll cross 1MM when I get my AA Citibank charges post mid-September, or at worst mid-November. So if I understand what's being said, I'll get my Lifetime Gold then -- is that correct?

Some early observations:
1. Kudos galore to AA on the handling of this. Months of pre-notice, more than 3 months of official notice to tidy things up, transparency along the way and a company rep on FT to address questions. Classy, real classy. 2. In truth, the AA MM program was much broader than any others and now rejoins the pack, albeit with some edges in some cases. I think most of the sour grapes 'lots of account closings to come' posts are just that-sour grapes. Go take those Bank Direct balances elsewhere and see what they'll earn-enough at the end of each month for a one way ticket to Europe? Not for most folks, and then in most cases only with a lot of hoops to jump through. 3. I believe the numer of MM participants in most programs is very tiny. Fly 50,000 paid miles a year? Obviously that's 20 years, and moreover, the lifetime benefits don't add much to what those 50,000 miles a year get you already. Where they really payoff is if your paid travel drops a lot due to a change in job or other circumstance, such as retirement. 4. Cutting off the soft access to status will allow the benefits of status to stay around longer, though I won't be surprised if the rewards for BIS miles increase a lot down the road, and not just at AA. Thanks again to AA for a job well done. |
Will this affect current lifetime members? Will they have to requalify?

Q. I already have vested status. Will it continue to be honored? A. Yes, if you are a vested AAdvantage Gold or AAdvantage Platinum member, you will continue to enjoy that status for the lifetime of the AAdvantage Gold or AAdvantage Platinum program. |

Phewwwwwwwwwwwwww.... |
this is so sad. i literally just opened a bankdirect account with the intent of accruing enough miles to hit 1MM. i am currently at 500k =/ i may switch over to united, now that i live in nyc and have a choice unlike in dfw. the benefits on united just seem so much better.
