AAdvantage Buy Back and Boost / Buy Up Status

AA generally offers members reasonably close to requalifying for status near the end of the year the option to buy back their existing status, or on occasion to buy up to the next highest status tier.

These offers are generally made by email to AAdvantage members beginning some time in November.

If you have not received an offer or would like to see your offer (if any), you can see it by visiting https://elite.aa.com

If you haven’t flown sufficiently, you’ll probably sign in and see

Interesting, I was offered a "good" deal. I am $2000+ EQD from PlatPro, but offered PlatPro for $1800, not that I am taking it.

I'm at $7500 EQD and 47k EQM with a few flights left in which I'll easily re-qualify for Plat. Was just curious, so I checked and they "offered" $695.

I'm more interested in what the Plat Pro offer will be, so I'll check back mid December.

As I semi-retired a couple of years ago, I'd fallen from EXP to Plat. This year my travel is up and I'll easily get Pro (I'm @ $15.3k EQD/71kEQM) and will probably net out around $18k EQD / 82k EQM. Probably not worth my time to MR to 100k EQM but wonder if there's any scenario that AA would offer a buyup to EXP (I'll exceed their EQM threshold by >50%). Probably not likely but the 4 SWUs have some value to me.

To Often1: If in December I'm $600 short of EQD and the buy up offer is $595 or even $995, then yes, buy up will be a simple and cost-effective way to secure Plat status for 2019. It would certainly be more time-effective than putting myself on a plane for an EQD run late in the year.
If the only thing you're short of is EQD, I don't know why you wouldn't just upfare booked flight(s) unless you're already booked in the highest class of service available (unlikely if you're short of EQD).

In other words, you could pay for an upgrade that would also get you the EQD rather than just paying for the buy up and getting nothing in return.

If you're already going to make the status being offered, why bother checking? Serious question.

A friend is $118 EQD short of Gold, but sitting on 43K EQM. But will earn in another week anyway. Offer is $295 - seems high to me for $118 short.

I would even view $235 as high for being $135 short. Wouldn't your kid be traveling with you anyway for status items without the actual status - priority seats and boarding?

I'm at $8,813 EQD (need $187 for PP) and 74,839 EQM (need 161 for PP) and the offer is $995. I have a trip to ORD scheduled for Monday that will put me over anyway, but I was just curious what it would be since it's pretty close.

8898 EQD and 73K EQM and $1195 for plat pro. I will make it this month and should be very close to EXP in December (missing a few EQM) so I may have to do a mini MR if the offer is similar.

Platinum currently with 46K EQMs and 7700 EQDs. Offered to keep Platinum for $855. Will hit the threshold anyway from upcoming travel, but doesn't seem like a terrible deal otherwise.

Offered Exec Plat for $695. Im less than 20EQM short so just one flight anywhere in the world on a one world partner and I am good. My EQDs well beyond 15,000. I guess I need to look at the shortest commercial flight threads.
