AA generally offers members reasonably close to requalifying for status near the end of the year the option to buy back their existing status, or on occasion to buy up to the next highest status tier.
These offers are generally made by email to AAdvantage members beginning some time in November.

Currently about 10,000 EQM's short of 100,000 EQM's for calendar-year 2018.

I'm $7000 EQD for 2018 and 2 segments away from Platinum. They offered me a buy up to it for $795. No thanks, but I wonder if that offer will change to PlatPro after I fly those 2 segments next week once I've earned Platinum.

Offered Gold requalification for $699. Will pass on this. $699 can buy lots of MCE seats. I already get a free checked bag with the credit card (which they love to advertise). I book first/business class on long flights, rather than take chances on slim upgrade odds.

I am 269 EQM short of Platinum. I am over the EQD. My offer is $855 for Platinum.
My wife on the other-hand is $2k short of EQD and only has 26k EQM and her offer for Platinum is $1,200.
I will update once I achieve PLT on my next flight with what my PLT Pro offer is.

Just for the data point:
Current EXP, EQD ~$12.5k, EQM 89.4k, EQS 18, offered renewal at $2795. Got enough booked to requalify the old fashioned way, so moot issue.
The four eVIPs might almost be worth the cost if I were staying on the wrong side of the Pacific for another year, as I've had a pretty good batting average with them (4 for 5 in 2018), but that's a big pill to swallow otherwise.

I am 263 EQMs or 3 EQS short of re-qualifying for Gold next year. Offered a Gold status buyback for $495. I'll hit gold with my return flight later in the month anyway so no big deal. I'll see if I get a plat offer once I hit gold.

I am wondering the same myself. I was offer $1050 to remain Plat but currently 8,000 EQM short from making Plat but should requalify before the month is out. I am about a $1000 EQD , which again I should meet by the end of the month, from meeting the PlatPro threshold but will be about 22,000 miles short on EQM for PlatPro.

For those who might not hit a status tier node but still have some travel booked:
It’s important to remember these offers are dynamic and will change if your totals change (though we don’t know the EQM - EQD - EQS decision points) and will continue to be available well into 2019.
As well, we will get emails - likely more than one - and I don’t think we’ll have to wait long.
AA seems to be loving the revenue from these buy back - buy up offers.

No boost offer for me. I'm PPRO and won't even make gold this year (significantly less travel in my new position).

Currently PLAT
$7,065 EQD
28,080 EQM
35 EQS
Offer to re-buy PLAT: $1,299
That's one heck of a lot of MCE seats, or even outright upgrades (certainly more than the 3 I've had this year!)
I'll likely have another 4 segments and ~2,500 miles for the year, but certainly not enough to requal for PLAT. If the offer were < $300, I might consider it.
