Help finding a routing to include premium TCON?

I am not very good with Matrix, but I'm wondering if PHX-LAX-JFK-SYR is something that could be booked for premium TCON, instead of just PHX-JFK-SYR in the normal reclinder F seats? I'm okay with the A321 business since I'm flying with my wife so paired seats are fine.

I thought adding X:LAX to the ITA routing code would work but it doesn't come up and on AA.com I can't "book a connection as multi-city".

it seems like the times don't really work well if routing via transcon route. i'd say save the money and get to the destination sooner. also, I don't believe there is a JFK-SYR flight

Have you tried Google Flights to piece it together? It doesn't look like AA even operates a JFK-SYR nonstop. So whatever result you get will likely be really expensive and involve 2 extra connections i.e. PHX-LAX-JFK-DCA-SYR or something similar. That is a silly routing just to get in the 321T business class.

You can do PHX-LAX-JFK-PHL-SYR in 15 hours.

Be prepared to pay for it. Some of the cheapest F fares PHX-SYR don't allow a JFK-LAX segment. Example:
American (AA) S7AWZNI3 PHX to SYRIF THE FARE COMPONENT INCLUDES TRAVEL BETWEEN JFK AIRPORT
AND LAX
THEN THAT TRAVEL MUST BE ON
ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
ANY AA FLIGHT
BUT NOT ON NONSTOP FLIGHTS.

The routing codes for this would be "LAX JFK X?" (Meaning, connect in LAX, then JFK with no further connections) but submitting that shows only DL and AS options in Matrix because there is no non-stop AA flight from JFK-SYR. You could use codes: AA+ LAX JFK DCA and AA+ DCA JFK LAX for the return but those really, really terrible routes and prices out at 2786.00.

if you really want a bed for the transcon you could do DL and its shorter but still a 20+ hour journey and its super expensive:

So tl;dr: take the recliner.

Even the pricey F/J fares prohibit LAX-JFK connections. DL has same prohibitions against including domestic D1 flights as connections on regular F fares. Forcing the routing (as above) will just create pricey broken fares where you are booking separate fares on each segment and combining them on one ticket rather than getting a single cheaper through fare.

If money is not an issue, might as well go for the F cabin on the transcon legs. 15 hrs on the outbound and only 12 on the inbound!

There are several JFK-SYR flights daily on Delta and JetBlue

Okay, so I guess I was wrong that there was a JFK-SYR nonstop, so that is problem #1 with the plan. It must have been DL I was thinking of. I wasn't sure the extra stopover (plural for AA) was really worth it, but I figured I wouldn't rule it out until seeing the fares. Now I've seen some fares thanks to you good people and Jeez Louise, I can (nearly) fly J to Europe for the prices in the screenshots!

Thanks for the Matrix mini-tutorial on how to do that.

That's interesting. I guess they're protecting the premium seats because of fare differences - as best I can tell, Delta does this buy distinguishing between "First" and "Delta One".

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Separate tix might help, but obviously it depends on your risk tolerance.

It used to be possible on some fares to get the LAX/SFO-JFK F/J as part of another trip, but they seem to have done a good job of locking them out- too many lost premium seats I guess.
