Okay, so I guess I was wrong that there was a JFK-SYR nonstop, so that is problem #1 with the plan. It must have been DL I was thinking of. I wasn't sure the extra stopover (plural for AA) was really worth it, but I figured I wouldn't rule it out until seeing the fares. That's interesting. I guess they're protecting the premium seats because of fare differences - as best I can tell, Delta does this buy distinguishing between "First" and "Delta One".
