2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm

NOTE: “Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.” - AA

List of members' offers for 2018 program year to be added below. See end for 2016 offers.

List current status, EQD & EQM / EQS, $ required for buyback or boost and status offered:

Current status: PLT. Gold for 2016.

EQD - 7,340
EQM - 61,218
EQS - 25

Offer for PPro came this morning: $1,899. As the *only* difference between PLT and PPro is upgrades without stickers, I will pass.

If they had made this any sort of legitimate offer (with 12 days to earn the status with BIS miles and dollars, minimizing chances I would earn it normally), like say $500 cash with no expenses on their part service (no plane, no employees, no maintenance, just cold hard cash to tick a box on their end), they'd have an extra $500 in revenue from me today instead of the $0 they're going to get (done flying for 2017). Granted, that would mean everybody would just wait until the end and buy up, but they have analysts to work on the math of who is likely to take/should be offered a deal. Though I understand the concept of basically valuing the convenience of not traveling at ~$240.

Presently Gold. A month ago I had about 800 EQD and 8000EQM. Got an offer for $699. I took a trip that got about 300EQD and 3000 EQM and figured I'd wait to see if they came down any, although I doubt they will.

I'll buy in. I expect to travel more next year. The main route I fly, PHL-LAS, is elite-lite and I can get MCE at check-in, compared to paying $80 without status. This is a big deal for me, so I would break even just on taking 4 RT flights. Plus standby, no last-minute fee on award tix, occasional <500mi upgrade, and ability to book free MCE if I'm traveling with someone.

1) You spent almost $18,000 on 21 segments. You are traveling far and in style!
2) My goodness you have a huge bankroll of award miles!

At your level of travel on American you likely could have secured Lifetime Global Services on United instead.

Is the website down for anyone else? I'm went in to renew mine and the area that previously populated with the fields to fill out now gives me an error message.

All done. $1600 to retain Platinum, vs. $1800 in EQD (probably $2500 in real $$) to do it "naturally."

95 miles short of Platinum. Received no email offer, but the website tells me I can buy up for $295. That's probably worth it, given that I could easily spend that on day passes to club, front of plane seats, etc. Plus the fast track security lane at LHR really is a great bonus. That said, it's pure profit for them.

wg
ETA: I appear to have misread that. The offer was $265

Currently at 84k miles and $12k. Strangely, I never got an offer, even though I've been at this point for a few weeks. I ended up upfaring one flight and booking a mileage run to get to 100k, but I'm a bit confused that I never had an offer.

Flew SAN-LHR in F on Thursday. Miles have posted and I've now made Plat, but my offer is still showing $1299 to upgrade to Plat.

In my offers for Pro and EXP this year (before I made it on flying), it always seemed to take at least a week if not more for the offers to reflect my flying activity.

Mine started at $2495 and stayed there from ~85K EQM with stops along the way (though for only hours as my last 10K was covered in ~a week) at 91, 94, and 95. I checked all the way through when i crossed the bar, and it never deviated from the original offer.
