Why doesn't AA codeshare to Philippines?

Is there a known reason why AA doesn't codeshare to MNL? I've been trying to get a J ticket through my work travel agent and not having the codeshare is making it quite challenging to book, not to mention way less miles because the connecting leg on either JL or CX doesn't earn very many EQDs.

I really wish a Philippine airlines was with an alliance with AA or DL. Seems like Philippines is the only Asian country that doesn't have an airline in an alliance, and I would think they would by now or at least partnered with one of the Big 3 given the two countries extensive history and relationship.

I really wish a Philippine airlines was with an alliance with AA or DL. Seems like Philippines is the only Asian country that doesn't have an airline in an alliance, and I would think they would by now or at least partnered with one of the Big 3 given the two countries extensive history and relationship.

It's too bad that the portrayal of AA 167 from JFK to Manila in the film "The Bourne Legacy" was fictional. That flight number was the now defunct JFK-NRT flight, on which the actors in reality would have had to connect to JL metal to get to MNL...
But, I fail to see the dilemma here. Why not just book a JL or CX connection, for example? The code share simply doesn't exist, so no use fretting about it.

Have you read the whole thread? Also my reply was in reply to your statement in which you list DL. DL doesn't need a codeshare partner since they fly there.

Only if those airlines agreed to extra security do i think they could be codeshared. Also in terms of striking an agreement 2014 is not that long ago, only 3 years ago. Its not like they were in an alliance with waiting partner. Plus I'm not sure if anyone really wants to be assosciated with them. Check out their J class with bunk bed seats.

PAL has the only nonstops from the US to Manila and also to Cebu. What's the incentive to change/join/upgrade? Seems low... I mean, consider that they include A340 planes with recliners in J on multiple 14+ hour transpacific routes (CEB - LAX, and MNL - SFO).

AFAIK, Philippines is the only airline that has as bad a J hard product. They pack them in 2/2/2 on A330 with bunk bed seating. Considering J, imagine Y. Each alliance has the step-chuld so to speak. Philippines is the drunk uncle no one wants. At least from what ive read i dont see any of the alliances wanting them.
Now, their J is terrible, but that's a different story.

I think Philippine Airlines tried to join Oneworld but the ownership/management changed hands.
Many would not fly them long-haul if they had a competitor flying direct from MNL given their product in J. I personally prefer taking a stop in HKG or NRT because I don't like both hard and soft product.
