Access to FL and FFD

I have an international flight from GRU to JFK coming up in J. It appears from reading this and other threads that international arrival in J gets access to the FL (and FFD if I decide to upgrade to F) on arrival at JFK.

However, arrival at JFK will require clearing immigration and then drops me off landside to get baggage. Would security at T8 allow me to clear to enter the lounge without an onward connection / boarding pass? Or can I use my international boarding pass to clear and enter the lounge?

I could always connect through MIA and arrive airside in JFK, but don't think I want to do that just to check out the current state of FL and FFD since their reopening.

No.

Hi, new FT member here, and first-time poster. Looking for feedback on JFK FL access with the following upcoming itinerary:
  • CGK-NRT-JFK-MSY, with NRT-JFK in F on JAL. My onward domestic JFK-MSY is about 4 hours later on Jetblue (marketed by AA). (I am Platinum Pro if that matters at all)

Would this itinerary grant FL access in JFK, and if so, on what basis?

    Thanks in advance!

    Tom

Your flight between NRT & JFK being in F will get you into FL on arrival. I had to cancel my Tokyo, HK, SIN trip. So bummed. How was travelling in/through Asia right now? Cant wait to reschedule and go.

Btw, just realized you are flying on B6 for the domestic.. So you would have to get to T8 which normally at JFK I dont believe you would be able to get into if on Jet Blue but now with their partnership and the airside bus between 5 & 8 maybe it is possible to go to 5, take the bus to 8 for FL then the bus back..

That is a bummer indeed! Hopefully you can get that rescheduled asap. Which airlines were you planning to take? As for the current airport conditions in Asia, I actually am living and working in Indonesia currently, so don't have a recent report. My last trip back to the US was in June, but even then I flew QR through Doha to CGK, so don't have much insight outside of my domestic experiences (CGK, DPS, LOP, UPG) with Garuda, Citilink, and Batik. In June CGK was eerily quiet, although it makes sense with the quarantine rules on arrival (8 days), on top of the entry restrictions (no visa on arrival, no tourist visa, etc).

Appreciate the insight on my itinerary, I hadn't fully thought through those JFK logistics (don't have much experience at JFK). Sounds like if I wanted to get to FL (and I do for the shower!), I would pass through immigration and collect my checked luggage at T8, then take the AirTrain from T8 to T5, re-check my bag at Jetblue counter (no priority access here, I'm assuming?), clear security, then look for the shuttle bus to take me over to FL at T8 (and leave enough time on the back-end for a return bus ride to T5). Sounds like a hassle, but with a 3.5hr layover might as well do it.

I'm not totally sure the lounges are open right now. I'd call and ask.

with this routing, will I have access to Flagship lounge coming back in MIA? its coming in from GYE, but still a first class ticket from MIA to JFK

No. I don't believe either way actually.

AA.com says
South America (excluding Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela)

Yea, business class to Ecuador doesn't come with Flagship Lounge access, only Admirals Club. Can use the AC's in JFK and MIA.

And JFK-MIA in first/business/whatever is irrelevant for lounge access purposes in this scenario.

I guess admirals club in jfk is decent enough. In MIA, should I attempt the admirals club or with my priority pass visit the Turkish lounge in concourse E?

thank you

I actually don't think you will get access to the FL, or even the AC at JFK, since your connection is to a non-OW carrier, but then again the B6 partnership might get you into the AC (it's confusing on many levels). But enjoy the NRT JL F Lounge. A little beef curry, sushi, sake/Japanese whiskey/XO cognac/champagne. Can't go wrong there..

Platinum member here, I am flying MIA-LAX in Flagship First. Only issue is I am not 21 so I would be unable to enter on my own. I would be able to bring in a guest due to my status it looks like. So hypothetically I could find someone of age and then say he is my guest and I would be let in. Right? Please let me know if anyone has experience with it. Definitely want to take advantage of FFD, would be quite unfortunate to miss out on it. Also if anyone would like to volunteer themselves and is in MIA 10/16 in the afternoon please let me know. Thanks!

Hypothetically yes, if you're entitled a guest. I've actually seen this exact scenario before and it was preplanned by the two parties through FT. Just like what you're doing here. But it was for FCL access not FFD.

Your Platinum status wouldn't allow any guests into the Flagship First Dining area. Also you would have no guest allowance for the Flagship First Dining area when flying premium transcontinental Flagship First.

Unfortunately, your only way to enter FFD would be to find an eligible person over 21 years of age that is eligible to enter Flagship First Dining and be present at the same time at the check-in desk at the main entrance. You might be lucky based on the agent might not check your ID if you do not look small in appearance.

Unfortunately, the OP is not entitled a guest. See link above. Flagship First passengers get 1 guest allowance only when flying on international itineraries.

I'm more concerned about getting into the lounge than FFD, I can probably talk my way into that far easier than the lounge. Admirals clubs are hit or miss for letting me in, but I am pretty sure the Flagship Lounge would be harder to get into. I could be wrong, but it looks like I can bring one guest due to my Sapphire/Platinum status. Worst comes to worst, there is a decent shot there would be a CK on my flight (coming in from DFW on a 77W), so maybe could talk my way into getting them to let me in. Or someone in line possibly. Hopefully someone will PM me.
