Quite easily it's also to give more slack to re-accommodate those that DID buy J/F when their schedules get disrupted.
But this really is pathetic.
My JFK-LHR was 2.5h delayed last week - inbound had a mechanical in MIA. Moved to BA so I could make my connection and still attempt to arrive on time, but got stuck in a middle Club World seat.
And it wasn't rebooked as an AA codeshare so now I have to request/fight for ORC because of big differential in RDMs (and EQMs) given expensive ticket.
Then return BCN-JFK 2.5 hours delayed the other day, also due to mechanical on inbound (apparently they had to sub that a/c after they left the gate).
Glad we got the CIP 763, and flight/crew/service was good, but come on.

Looks like things at AA are improving but they're still bringing up the back of the pack: http://www.bizjournals.com/chicago/n...html?ana=yahoo

In the scheduling dept vs. OPs war, OPs has prevailed in making the argument that there's no way to run the schedule the way it is now and that the current state of affairs is scheduling's fault, not OP's.
That view has prevailed, for now, and changes are afoot. If those changes don't help, larger changes (at OPs, then) will quickly follow-- the will to fix and the urgency of same has arrived (later than it should have, ironically

Americans On-Time Performance At LAX Has Improved Greatly
DECEMBER 8, 2016 BY LUCKY 7 COMMENTS
...In mid-August American acknowledged the problem and committed to making changes to improve their performance at LAX. Specifically, American made some changes to their scheduling department, and said that if that didnt help theyd make changes to their operations department.
In other words, American had decided that they simply had too many flights scheduled to/from LAX, rather than that operations just wasnt handling the flights correctly.
Well, it has now been several months since summer, so have Americans operations at LAX improved?
Cranky Flier wrote a post about this topic a couple of days ago, comparing Americans performance over the past two months to the performance of other airlines at LAX, as well as to their own performance over the summer.
Flights are typically considered on-time if they arrive within 14 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, so heres how airlines did with that metric at LAX between October 1 and November 30, 2016 (this includes both mainline and regional flights):
American 82.7% on-time
Delta 79.8% on-time
United 78.5% on-time
American-Eagle
Thats a fantastic improvement, especially when you consider that in June only about 65% of American flights were on-time to LAX.
Obviously the improved performance at LAX is as a result of them cutting the number of frequencies out of the airport. However, what we cant as easily figure out is how many of these frequencies were cut due to American acknowledging their unrealistic scheduling, rather than just natural capacity cuts that happen after the peak summer travel season.
Regardless, kudos to American for their improved performance at LAX. While nobody likes a cut in flights, it was the only way to avoid a continued situation where so many of their flights were running late.

Landed on time but took 30 minutes to get to the gate today on 275 lax-Mia tonight. Tow in gate, plane had to try twice, backing up significantly after first try.
Count me unimpressed.
