American Airlines AirPass PrePaid Travel

NOTE: The program is Airpass; no longer named "AAirpass"

Prepaid, Unrestricted Air Travel at a Fixed Rate

As an AirPass member, you won’t have to search for fares or pay extra for last-minute trips. Your airfare is pre-paid at a fixed rate and your account is ready when you need to travel to any of the more than 350 destinations in the combined American Airlines and US Airways network.
AirPass offers significant savings on fares (as well as guaranteed last seat availability) for flyers who know they will fly a lot but find themselves buying expensive last minute walk-up level fares.

AirPass, depending on level of purchase, includes status and may include up to Executive Platinum status and Admirals Club membership, or even Concierge Key, which includes both.

AirPass members get a courtesy drink and a snack if they're traveling in Coach, much as Executive Platinums do; unlike Executive Platinums, their traveling companion does also.

14 Jan 2016 jmappleby said: "...they take credit via wire transfer at $10k (Gold), $20k (Platinum), $30k (EP). Concierge Key is available for $50k individual spend or $75k team spend."
AirPass can be for different classes of service, and except for "PlanAAhead Economy", book into Y, J or F classes (and in 2016 will earn AA Elite Qualifying Miles at Y, J or F levels) and for Economy AirPass flyers offers "instant upgrade" fares that book into A for First or D for Business. These may not be available on all routes, however, and the legal routes may change during your contract.

The best deal seems to be the -UP fares, where you pay the standard economy, but book a confirmed seat into business

I have had an Airpass for about 10 years. I like the flexbility...it isn't always the least expensive (especially for international flights) but it is efficient for last minute F flights. I use it to LGA and it saves me about $400 per RT in F. It doesn't make sense for the economy flyer.

Question for AAirpass holders

What is a typical per-mile rate for travel these days? I travel on a few short hops that might be cheaper this way.

Thanks!

I just purchased a one year Aairpass for my daughter and it was 45 cents per base mile.

Cool. It is a high CPM compared to discount fares but not so bad for unrestricted short hops.

Can you use them for any city pair that AA.com will show routings for? There is one city pair in mind that has no published fares but would be a decent deal at .45 mile.

45 cents seems pretty good for personal/smaller purchases. I don't have exact figures, but as far as I can tell my company gets about 40-41 cents per mile but that is with some pretty big yearly spend on AA.

Anyone know if there is an annual fee?

Never considered it for short hauls. Looks promising. I often make short hops DFW-OKC or AUS. Average cost is about $170-$230 RT, ~$0.48-$0.67 per mile, with restrictions and no perks.

Does this $0.45 include airport fees and taxes?

If you consider International it can be mcuh different and you need to really research your routing and pricing especially in J as when I pondered it for Central America it cost more for an AAirpass ticket than full fare J did. The AAirpass saleslady admitted it was a bad deal by quite a lot.

Can anyone PM me a link to the current brochure and rules? The sales office has already gone home for the day.

http://www.aairpass.com

However, it looks like they no longer publish how much the "packages" of travel miles cost (probably because they would like to negotiate with each member based on how many miles you plan on buying in a year).

It's the mileage multipliers I'm interested in. Mostly, is there a surcharge for short flights? Does it work for city pairs that don't have published fares?

No worries. I can just call tomorrow.

There are taxes on each ticket but no surcharges. It works for any city pairs AA flies. Great deal for last minute travel and includes AC plus free food/booze in Y. It is rarely a good deal for international as has been noted. It also grants automatic Gold privileges for anyone.

I found this link to an old mileage multiplier chart. Is there still a surcharge on mileage for very short flights? This would be a dealbreaker for me.

My old company paid around 25 cents/mile, but they bought miles in multi-million dollar chunks.

I thought AAirpass was good for International F/J?

It is, but the value is not very good. In most cases you can do better actually buying a ticket with money.
