AA Boeing 737-800, type 738D
(configured 16F, 144Y, including 30 MCE - including Exit rows). Current seats seem to be Zodiac 5751 slimline seats.

All aircraft have been converted to the type 738K Oasis/Kodiak configuration

Archived content
Under “Project Oasis” this type will ultimately be refitted to 737 MAX 8 “Project Oasis” standards, with 170 seats: 16 F / J seats with reduced pitch and recline, and 156 ultra-slimline Rockwell Collins (previously B/E Aerospace) Meridian seats with 30” pitch in Main Cabin, 33”pitch in Main Cabin Extra and ultra-slimline lavs, onboard served WiFi IFE (no seatback) IFE, etc.

All 738s delivered prior to 10 Dec 2013 are equipped with center ceiling mounted drop down screens;

738s delivered on or after 10 Dec 2013 currently have seat-back AVOD and 110 VAC plus USB seat power. The IFE will ultimately be replaced by WiFi served IFE.

Link to AA fleet list - 737-800 configuration information by registration ("tail") numbers.

738s (until modified to 7M8 standards) are laid out:

First / Business rows 3-6 (no rows 1 or 2)

Economy from rows 7-30; MCE from rows 7-9, and MCE exit rows 14 and 15. Row 15 has full recline.

Anyone know what the status is of MCE rollout on 738? My trip on Sunday is showing that it starts at row 8, but not showing that the front seats are MCE.

All 738s that were previously configured at 160 seats have been converted to MCE. There are still some 738s which were originally configured at 148 seats and have yet to be converted. Most of those are used on routes to and from ORD.

Hmm. This is AA 882 (SFO-DFW) on 2/24, which shows rows 8-30 online (which I think means previous 160 seat config) and yet is still showing rows 8-17 as "Preferred" rather than MCE.

Just had AA flight 350 ORD-LGA 2 Feb 13. Flight was operated by a 738 (Tail N878NN). The couple of rows right behind first class were marked MCE in aqua blue. This plane was also equipped with Boeing sky interior.

Based in ORD, this is actually the first time I've seen a MCE equipped 738. I either have been on a streak of bad luck or there just weren't that many 738s with MCE. Glad to see some change happening.

For rows 16 and 17, which ones have the power ports? From the seat map it looks like 17, but I can't tell if it the plugs are accessible in the front or back of the seat. Do all 738 now have the AC-style plugs?

I have an upcoming flight in May on the 738 and I plan to work, so need to have a power port. Having a blocked middle seat would help me do work.

In Y, there are 2 power ports (110V AC) per 3 seats, located under the seats. They are accessible from the front (similar to reaching for the life jacket)

Do aisle seats in row 14 and 15 now have movable or unmovable armrests?

It's funny. A couple of months ago I sat in a row that had a middle seat blocker. I was in the LAX AC and was talking about it. I had asked if this was to bring the pax capability down to 150 so that a fourth flight attendant would not be needed. One of the ladies there (who seems to be very contrarian about everything) chimed in and was adamant that was not the case as to why those blockers were being installed. However, she never gave a reason as to why. I guess the next time I see her, I'll ask her how many FA's are now working 738 flights.

They are the same old unmovable exit-row armrests.

Is there a consensus as to the best Y seats on the MCE 738?

Is the tradeoff 16 or 17 for blocked middle v. MCE for more legroom v. exit row for more legroom but non-moveable armrest and non-reclining 14? Pick 16/17 if you prefer not sitting next to someone and MCE if you prefer more legroom?

Anything different for a couple traveling together?

I recall that 15A is better than 15C because there is slightly more space.

What about 8A or 8C?

Is there any advantage to the exit row over MCE?

8 is the bulkhead row, which is usually less legroom and often means putting stuff overhead for takeoff and landing.

It seems to be legroom (MCE) v. maybe sitting next to someone (16/17), whether traveling alone or as a couple.

Fixed armrests. Makes it harder for people to extend into your space.

APFA confirmed to its membership in a Hotline on March 1st that effective April 1st 737s would be co-paired with S80 and staffed with 3 F/As with a few market driven exceptions.

Which seat now has the missing window? It used to be 10A on the old config. Flying an MCE 738 for the first time and am in 9A (unless my UG clears)
