NOTE: The 15 A330-200 (with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines) are being retained and updated. (The nine Pratt & Whitney equipped A330-300s have been scheduled for retirement (return to lessor at lease end) by late 2018 due to poor "fit" in the AA fleet (link).) The A330-200s will continue, however, and the launch of the retrofitted A330-200 will see
  • 20 Zodiac "Envoy" type Business seats in a 1-2-1 layout (1 blocked for pilot rest)
  • 21 Premium Economy (B/E Aerospace) seats in a 2-3-2 layout
  • 50 Main Cabin Extra seats (same seats as Y, just greater seat pitch) 2-4-2 (2 blocked for customers requiring customer assistance)
  • Main Cabin / Economy seats also 2-4-2
  • Ku band satellite based Panasonic WiFi
  • Individual personal entertainment screens for every seat
  • Seat power
  • Noise reduction headsets - Bose in Business, others for Premium Economy

Premium Economy and extended Main Cabin Extra has been installed on the A330-200 fleet. Until 15 Jan 2018, PE seats were available to Elites as MCE on those aircraft with PE; PE are available for sale on that date.

The A330-300s are not receiving a premium economy cabin, they are set for retirement. So if PHL-FCO is going from an A330-200 to the -300 version after 3/28, then that explains AA not selling PE beginning on that date.

True, I just thought it was odd to see this route losing the PE cabin so soon after they specifically announced that this route was going to have the PE aircraft...perhaps it will return to the -200 after the -300s get retired but that could be awhile.

PEY update: N285AY is finished and scheduled to fly PHL-LHR on Monday, November 20th. N280AY has been flown to Everett and undergoing refit. I've updated the WiKi accordingly.

I noticed my PHL-FCO flight switched to the new configuration with PEY seating. I was in 9B and kept my same seat assignment so now I'm at the bulkhead. Any reports from those who have already flown this newly reconfigured aircraft? I'm sure it will take awhile before seatguru is updated....love the idea of sitting at the bulkhead but I know there is a windowless wall in that area so I'm hoping that's not the location of the new row 9.

N280AY has flown to CLT from PAE and is complete with retrofit.
N292AY has flown to PAE to begin retrofit.
N283AY flew from SAL to CLT on 11/23 and has returned to service. It did not get retrofit while in SAL.

285 is NEW config and it looks like the crew took it down to SAL on 23 NOV, left it there, and picked up 283 with old config.

293 is schedule to fly from PHL to MUC tomorrow, 12/2. It does not appear that it went under retrofit during its extended stay at CLT.

N282AY is currently on it's way to PAE from PHL
N291AY has completed retrofit and has resumed flying routes. It is currently in flight to FRA
N292AY looks to have completed retrofit and should fly back to PHL either this evening or tomorrow morning. It is scheduled to fly PHL to DUB tomorrow night

Wiki needs to be updated. N293AY is flying routes with old config. N280AY has been at CLT since 11/30, likely undergoing a c-check.

It looks like they have gotten into a groove with the retrofits. They are now finishing them in around 8 days and completing two at a time.

2-3-2 means a PE cabin (unless they are the last rows of the aircraft). What is your elite status, as that will determine if you have access to those seats.

No its rows 6 to 8 so im hoping its a retrofit as the config was definitely 2-4-2 earlier. My status is Plat so is giving me option of MCE but they were all taken except a centre seat a few days ago now most of 6 to 8 is open so ive gone for 6A. Hoping then that its free PE

It also strangely shows right side of plane is MCE in 9GH to 16GH but not the AB side.
Same situation on return in Jan also
