You'd be surprised how many people on this board travel "every week ... with multiple segments on multiple weeks." I'm one of them. Maybe you should take a poll.

In addition, there are many of us who take multiple trips (some of which are even multi-segment) in a given week.

Segments

I was always PLT until AA dropped a majority of it's direct flights from my home airport(STL) thus forcing me to connect in DFW or ORD about every other week.

EXP is nice but I would rather be PLT and have all my flights direct every week.

The polls are now open...

Okey dokey, we can do that.

The rules are:
  • Poll will be open thirty days from Feb 23 2008
  • Poll can only be accessed for voting by members who signed in
  • Members are limited to one selection
  • Members may only vote once

And hopefully, only those who are EXP will actually vote...

Depending on how much international travel you do, seems like either segments or miles are the easiest. Does taking a roundtrip flight from say LAX to ORD, you go through SFO, does that count as 4 segments?

Ended up EXP for '07 on five round-trips, so points for me.

4 SAT-PVG, 1 SAT-ZRH, all J. It was easy.

Well, not exactly. From San Antonio, just about everywhere is 4 segment round trip. Easy to do 1 round trip per day. Two days per weekend. 8 segments per weekend. 12 weekends and 1 day give you 100 segments. Four months.

Made EXP on July 4.

Last year, lots of storms early on. Only had one flight canceled at the turn-around point. That was Kansas City. AA stuck me on alternate airline so I made it home same day. Rather be lucky than smart.

Did have lots of flights canceled before starting out. Got up some mornings and the flight was canceled. Weather in Dallas. Weather in San Antonio. Nice break when you are tired of going out every weekend.

Best route is San Antonio to Dallas to El Paso and return. Least chance of travel interruption. El Paso's airport isn't the best for hanging out but it sure is reliable.

I'm not doing it this year. Next year plan to do it on miles. Burn up EVIP January/February next year followed by Hawaii and Europe flights. We'll see.

JDiver, you missed a few choices (most of them serious alternatives):
  • Points and miles
  • Miles and segments
  • Points and segments
  • Points, miles and segments
  • Challenge (rare)
  • Status match (rarer)
  • Complimentary (rarest)
  • Prepaid card
  • Immaculate qualification

You might skip the last one since SquareDanceGuy and I are the only two people that I know of who achieved it that way.

The first year I qualified for EXP, I'm pretty sure I qualified this way. Seriously.

Segments

109 segments in 07. Less than 80k of the other two.

My territory out of was IAH, SAT, AUS, MSY. Territory "realignment" as of 1/1= OKC, ELP, ABQ, and TUL.

AA hub fares out of DFW to SWA served cities are very competitive. Plus my company (very large multinational household name) has negotiated a deal to make AA a preferred provider, which translates into competitive fares. However, anytime I make a change, I have to go through the "Rate desk". What a pain.

I made it via segments last year in November but did end up flying over 100K EQM before the end of the year

Adding these choice would certainly make it a more interesting and informative poll.

What about those of us that want to know if it was
Points then Miles
or Miles then Points
Segments then Points
Segments then Miles

And all other interations.

Of course, you are right - because I was feeling lazy and decided to target the poll at the hoi polloi (οἱ πολλοί, for those who are stymied,) who qualified by the usual means, and not those rare beings who qualified by an annunciation and assumption into EXP as they are, assimilation by the Borg, abduction by AAvantage EXP Desk staffers, etc. Those, as well as those who follow your stated categories, we will hear from.

I do see we underestimated liniment supplies, as we have more segment qualifiers than I imagined.

In a more serious vein, thanks for pointing out that a number may qualify more than one way. And I'd not question how you and SquareDanceGuy qualified; we just all knew that, except for a few newbies.
