How did you become Executive Platinum / EXP?

I wish I could add a poll to this thread.. but anyways..

1. 100k EQ miles
2. 100k EQ points
3. 100 segments

Depending on how much international travel you do, seems like either segments or miles are the easiest. Does taking a roundtrip flight from say LAX to ORD, you go through SFO, does that count as 4 segments?

Thank you JDiver for adding a poll, and adding the "Other" category to include the whiners and EXPs who want to feel extra special by not voting in the traditional ways of attaining the EXP status

If you fly a lot of paid international business, making on points is not so bad... I do tha I imagine the true EXP road warriors do it on miles.

It is miles.....and typically in 9 segments. Many years ago, it used to be segments.

I wouldn't say segments are easy. Yes, LAX-SFO-ORD-SFO-LAX is 4 segments. But it is also > 1000 earned miles per segment. So the only people that make it on segments are those who only fly short hops. That's the toughest in my opinion, especially because the equipment is usually no fun.

It was a response to the OP: LAX-SFO-ORD-SFO-LAX is 4 segments

All of the above some years. Other years, some combination of 1, 2, and/or 3.

I don't think anyone was claiming to have made EXP in 4 segments, but rather answering the OPs question as to whether or not LAX-ORD rt via SFO would count as 2 or 4 segments.

I make EXP the old fashioned way, BIS miles, usually around 105,000 but never anywhere near $20K, more like $4,000.00.

Usually make it on segments, as I generally get about 80K on miles. Company insists on steeply discounted fares, so points are hard to come by.

Last year it was points first, then segments, then miles. I expect this year it will be miles, then points, then segments...

Miles - 4 segments is never enough despite the 5 segment routing thru OC going ex-RDU to SJC RT that starts up this time of year.
